Propp's folktale theory has been a theoretical foundation for narrative or story generation system design, and we have also proposed some kinds of systems introduced such narratological idea. In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of a system using a story grammar based on the detailed analysis of Propp theory and combined with a conceptual dictionary used commonly in the integrated narrative generation system that we have been developed.
KOSERUBE is a system that generates automatically folk tale like stories and discourses with characters/places/objects relating to Iwate prefecture in Japan, the sentences, and music. It also edits automatically visual objects relating to generated narratives. The user can operate and appreciate the process through the visual interface. This paper the use, technological mechanism, and evaluation. One important point is that this system is an application system of our integrated narrative generation system, which uses Propp-based story grammar as the main automatic generation mechanism and adds an original visual interface. We also describe why the Propp-based method is especially selected.
In the Propp-based story generation mechanisms and the integrated narrative generation system which we have been developing, the former functions is a module in the latter. These systems have used respective event generation mechanisms to generated events which are the most important units in a narrative structural representation. A common event generation mechanism needs to be used in these two systems towards the complete blending. This paper will present the first tentative attempt as a prototype to be revised in the future.
