Suicide is a major public health problem and a leading cause of death among the persons 10 -24 years in the United States. The effects of suicide go beyond the person who acts to take his or her life. It can also have a lasting effect on family, friends, and the public at large. The suicide attempts among youth and youngsters between age of 14 to 30, globally has been increasing in recent years. According to the statistics, there is a shocking rise in suicide attempts among youngsters. In fact, between 2000 and 2007, the suicide rate among youth ages 10 to 24 hovered around 6.8 deaths per 100,000 people. Then, the rate curved upward, reaching a rate of 10.6 deaths per 100,000 by 2017 -a 56-percent increase in less than two decades. The suicide rate among people ages 10 to 24 years old climbed 56% between 2007 and 2017, according to the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The rate of homicide deaths decreased by 23% from 2007 to 2014 but then increased by 18% through 2017 [1].
Mood disorders are often an indication or a sign of depression, and individuals suffering from mood swings may face higher probability and increased suicidal tendencies. Depression-also called "clinical depression" or a "depressive disorder"-is a mood disorder that adversely impacts how an individual feels, thinks, and handles daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. To be diagnosed with depression, symptoms must be present most of the time, nearly every day for at least minimum of 2 to 3 weeks. Feeling sad or having low emotional energy may be common among people. For most, however, these feelings are transitory and can be managed by changing daily life routines. But for some, prolonged mood disorders can lead to depression and foster suicidal tendencies. Suicide is a major public health concern. Over 47,000 people died by suicide in the United States in 2017. It is the 10th leading cause of death overall according to NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health). Suicide is complicated and tragic, but it is often preventable. Identifying the warning signs for suicide and how to get help can be a major mitigating factor. In this short communication, we are reviewing the promise and limitations of AI (artificial intelligence) with its integrated tools such as ML (machine learning) and DL (deep learning) for mood analysis as a means for detecting early signs of depression and increased suicidal tendencies for possible suicide risk management.
Background: Psychotic disorder due to industrial drug, such as methamphetamine addiction, is one of the important causes for referral to psychiatric hospital. Psychotic symptoms in these patients are varied. A group of researchers believe that methamphetamine-induced psychosis is completely similar to schizophrenia. Others believe that at least some cases of permanent psychotic clinical manifestation due to methamphetamine abuse are different from schizophrenia. In the present study, the existence of differences between psychotic symptoms caused by methamphetamine addiction and schizophrenia is investigated.
Suicide is a key health concern and a major cause of death among persons aged 10 -24 years in the United States. In 2017, suicide was the second leading cause of death among this group and from 2007 to 2018, the suicide rate increased 56% among those aged 14 -19 years. Overall, among teenagers 12 -19 years, suicide is the third leading single cause of death, after accidents (unintentional injuries) and homicides. According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO), suicidal behavior is also a major health concern in many countries, developed and developing alike. Nearly 800,000 are estimated to die annually from suicide worldwide. Many more, particularly the young and the middle-aged individuals, attempt suicide. In this paper, it is suggested that modern technology plays a significant role in the increase in the rate of suicide among the youths. It is suggested that increasing engagement with social media, driven by new generation of electronic gadgets and smart phones, is an important factor behind the increase in the rate of suicides. Heavy usage of smart phones, such as texting, twitting, or having some other forms of engagement through social media, is a contributing factor.
Iran has been a major player in oil and gas exploration and production since the early twentieth century. However, for nearly 40 years, little information on petroleum-related activities in Iran has been published in the United States or, to a large extent, globally. Political turmoil has isolated Iran since the late 1970s, but recent events have changed the situation and many of the internationally imposed sanctions have been lifted. Some international companies have started to engage Iran to partner in development and exploration activities.
