Germinação e desenvolvimento inicial de plântulas de soja convencional e sua derivada transgênica RR em condições de estresse salino (CD 206 and CD 206 RR), the treatments consisted of the following levels of NaCl: 0, 5, 15, 30,
The use of fast and precise procedures for seed analysis is an important factor for making decisions at different stages of seed production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of internal damage and associate morphological traits of pearl millet seeds with their physiological potential, and evaluate seed vigor using the Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS®) compared to other traditional vigor tests. Eight seed lots of the pearl millet cultivar ADR 300 were analyzed for germination, vigor (first count, accelerated aging, cold test, and SVIS®), internal morphology (X-ray), and morphological parameters (perimeter, area, and roundness). The X-ray test is effective in evaluating the internal morphology of pearl millet seeds, allowing identification of mechanical damage and of deteriorated and malformed tissues, making it possible to establish a relationship between the damage observed and the negative effect on germination. SVIS® analyses on two-day-old seedlings are a reliable method for assessing seed vigor of pearl millet. Parameters of perimeter and area of the seeds are related to their physiological potential.
The electrical conductivity test is a fast and non-subjective method used to assess seed physiological potential. Thus, the objective of this study was adapting the methodology for conducting the electrical conductivity test in common bean seeds and investigate effects of genotype in results of the test, comparing cultivars of the two trade groups: Carioca and Black. The study was conducted in two phases: 1- tests with combinations of different temperatures (20, 25, 30, and 35 °C) and five different inhibition periods (4, 8, 16, 20 and 24 h); and 2- assessment of influence of genotype by comparing results obtained on the seeds of both groups. Tests of accelerated aging and seedling emergence in field were also performed. It was concluded that, for seeds of common beans, electrical conductivity test may be performed with samples of 50 seeds per replication, soaked into 75 mL deionized water, incubated at 25 °C, and performing reading of results after 20 or 24 h. It was also concluded that test efficiency is variable according to genotype, and that for the trade group Carioca, there is not genotype effect; although the same results have not occurred for results obtained for the trade group Black.
ABSTRACTPoet's jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum) is a species widely used is ornamental landscaping. But little research was been done on the efficiency of propagaton of this species. This study aimed to evaluate the rooting of stem, 8 cm in length Jasminum polyanthum treated with different concentrations of butyric acid (IBA) by the powder and water-alcohol solution at concentrations of 0, 1000, 1500 and 3000 mg L -1 or mg kg-1 of IBA. After the treatments, the cuttings were planted in tubes containing vermiculite and maintained an average particle size in a greenhouse with intermittent mist for 54 days. The variables were: rooting percentage, number of roots per cutting, root length per cutting, percentage of cuttings with callus, percentage of live cuttings and percentage of dead cuttings. Significant difference was not found between treatments for the variables cuttings with callus, root length and root number per cutting. In relation to rooting, the absense of application of IBA in talc or solution (control) showed satisfactory results in rooting percentage (80%), root length (3.46 and 3.66 cm respectively) and number of roots per cuttings (5.55 and 4.95 respectively), being dispensable the application of IBA to promote rooting in this species.
