New azo ligand, 2[(Aminoantipyren) azo]-4,5-bis(4-Methoxyphenyl)-H imidazole, (AAMPI) was prepared through coupling reaction of 4-amino antipyrine with 4,5-bis (4-methoxyphenyl) imidazole. Then, complexation of ligand with ions Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) were prepared to yield six complexes. The optimal conditions were studied for all complexes in the mole ratio between metal:ligand (M:L) as of 1:2 in the general formula [M(L) 2 ]Cl 2 ·H 2 O. Present results found the azo ligand was tridentate. The structures of ligand with complexes were identified by ultravioletvisible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 HNMR), carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance ( 13 CNMR), mass spectrometry, elemental analysis (CHN), magnetic susceptibility and molar conductance. All the complexes exhibit octahedral geometry around the metal center. The antibacterial activities of synthesized compound were tested against the gram-negative, gram-positive bacteria and fungus. The results showed that the metal complexes exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities compared with free ligand.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
