Interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-5 had been found increase after exposure to the periodontal pathogens Porphyromonas gingivalis, whereas no or minimal change had been found in the level of IL-17F, Ig-G, and IFN-γ. The various cytokines and immunoglobulins shown in this study do not prove a causal relationship, and the precise role of Porphyromonas gingivalis in the regulation of atopic immune response warrants further investigation. Nevertheless, these findings may provide some critical key insight into the host responses following Porphyromonas gingivalis infection.
Objective:To explore host innate inflammatory response and the signal pathway induced by Porphyromonas gingivalis by measuring level of toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and TLR4 activity.Materials and Methods:Animal experimental study with pretest-posttest controlled group design were done between January 1 and December 10, 2016.. Total of 28 wistar rats had been used, randomized into 7 groups, each were given various dose of intra-sulcural injection of Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide.Statistical Analysis:Normality were measured by Shapiro–Wilk test, while statistical analysis made by ANOVA, t test, Pearson, and linear regression model..Results:At day 0, no significant difference TLR2 and TLR4 level were measured. At day 4, there is a slight difference between TLR2 and TLR4 level in each group. At day 11, there is a significant difference between TLR2 and TLR4 level in each group. Group with exposure of whole cell will develop greater TLR2 but lower TLR4 level. In the contrary, group with exposure of LPS will develop greater TLR4 but lower TLR2 level.Conclusion:Our data supported that P. gingivalis played a vital role in the pathogenesis of pathogen-induced inflammatory responses in which TLR2 and TLR4 have different molecular mechanisms following recognition of pathogens and inflammatory response.
Background: Malocclusion is dentofacial growth deviation from its normal size and shape, thus causing abnormal occlusion. One of its etiology is heredity. Removable twin block, a functional appliance that can be used in interceptive orthodontic treatment, can be used to treat Class II malocclusion with large overjet in children during skeletal growth and development. Case: An 11-year-old boy came to pediatric dental specialist clinic with Class II division 1 Angle malocclusion (SNA 82°; SNB 74°; ANB 8°, CVM CS 4, overjet 14 mm, overbite 7 mm, and convex profile). Removable twin block for Class II malocclusion was chosen as the therapy. Case management: Removable twin block appliance with acrylic occlusal bite block was used on maxilla and mandible separately. An angle of 70° was made in the occlusal bite block, which was made based on the bite registration wax during centric occlusion. This device is used 24-hours a day. Monthly dental visit was done to reduce the maxillary and mandibular occlusal bite blocks. After 9 months, an overjet of 5 mm was obtained. Cephalometry calculations became SNA 82°; SNB 7 9 °; ANB 3 °. The patient was given further phase 2 treatment with fixed orthodontic appliance. Conclusion: With proper case selection and good patient cooperation, removable twin block appliance can correct skeletal malocclusion, improve facial profile, reduce overjet and overbite, and correct molar relations.
Karies gigi merupakan penyakit jaringan gigi yang ditandai dengan kerusakan jaringan yang dimulai dari email sampai ke dentin hingga meluas ke pulpa. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk pencegahan bidang kesehatan gigi adalah dengan mengatur pola makan pada anak sesuai dengan Sugar Clock. Sugar clock adalah pengaturan jam dan jenis makanan yang dikonsumsi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran pola makan pada anak agar terhindar dari resiko karies. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan cara pencatatan pola makan yang dikonsumsi (diet sheet) dan idikan serta pendpenyuluhan tentang sugar clock. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu siswa SD SAIM kelas 1-3 sebanyak lebih dari 50% mengkonsumsi diet seimbang berupa nasi, sayur, lauk pauk dan susu pada jam makan pagi, siang dan malam, dan sebanyak lebih dari 50% mengkonsumsi makanan dan minuman manis diantara jam makan pagi-siang maupun diantara jam makan siang-sore.
Background: Dental trauma in children is reported about 25–33%. Besides dental trauma, children are also at high risk for malocclusion. The prevalence of malocclusion in children was reported as 39% in children and 93% in adolescents. If the patient has malocclusion and a history of tooth loss due to trauma at the same time, there is often a dilemma as to which treatment should be prioritized. This case report will combine the Prosthetic phase and the orthodontic phase at the same time. Case reports regarding denture-modified removable orthodontic appliances in children have so far not been found. Case Report: An 11-year-old boy came with his mother to pediatric dentistry department at Universitas Airlangga with the chief complaint of missing teeth due to extraction at the dentist two years ago due to trauma. On intraoral clinical examination, it was found missing 11, crossbite 21 with 31 and 32. Case Management: Patients were planned treatment of malocclusion with removable orthodontic appliances added with riding pontic 11. Discussion: Tooth loss in children will affect speech, eating, and self-confidence. Several authors have reported appliance modifications and reported satisfactory results. During malocclusion treatment, dentures may not provide optimal aesthetic results. However, the advantages provided by the presence of dentures during the treatment of malocclusion are considered to be greater. Conclusion: Modification of removable orthodontic appliances combined with dentures can be a solution to both prosthodontic treatment needs and malocclusion.
