Ammonium dithiocarbamate, H,NCS2NH,, decomposes easily but the anion forms a stable mercury(I1) complex, the crystals of which are orthorhombic with a = 7.851(3), b = 17.565(7), c = 12.051(3) A, and space group Pbca. The structure was solved by the Patterson method and refined by the full-matrix least-squares method to an R of 0.038 for 781 reflections. The structure consists of layers of two-dimensional polymeric networks. The dimeric subunits in the layer containing two each of mutually connected Hg atoms and dithiocarbamates are further linked by other bridging dithiocarbamates forming a sheet-like structure. Each H atom bonds to four S atoms from four separate dithiocarbamates with Hg-S distancesof 2.499(4), 2.508(4), 2.533(4), and 2.629(4)
CHUNG CHIEH and SING KWEN CHEUNG. Can. J . Chem. 61, 21 1 (1983) The reaction between mercury (11) chloride and N, N'-dimethylethylenebisdithiocarbamate gave a white precipitate. In an attempted recrystallization from an aqueous-ethanol solution, a cyclic thiourea-type compound, N,N1-dimethyl-2-i~idazolidinethione, was obtained. The crystals of this compound are monoclinic, a = 10.388(2), b = 6.139(1), c = 12.291 (4) A, p = 118.:4(2), and space group P2,lc. The non-hydrogen atoms of the molecule are planar and the C=S bond length is 1.673(4) A. The structure was refined by full-matrix least-squares from 642 independent reflections measured on an automatic diffractometer to R and R,,. of 0.053 and 0.068, respectively. A series of monoazo disperse dyes derived from the coupling to N‐phenylmorpholine of diazotised anilines and aminothiazole derivatives is described. The colour, dyeing and fastness properties of the dyes is compared to those of the analogous dyes based on N‐ethyl‐N‐β‐hydroxy‐ethylaniline. Dyes from the ring closed heterocyclic coupling components dye synthetic‐polymer fibres in deep colours of good fastness properties and show significant hypsochromic colour shifts compared to the uncyclised derivatives.
