The wide spread of COVID-19 all over the world inspires every human to know and visualize its effect on human body. As COVID-19 effects the human lungs here a number of radiological images of human lungs are analysed using an image processing technique called Threshold Segmentation. A significant difference is observed between healthy lung images and COVID-19 effected lung images.
Perinatal asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal mortality and chronic neurologic disability amongst survivors. There is no single parameter to define perinatal asphyxia. Recent studies have established a correlation between cord blood nucleated red blood cell count and severity of perinatal asphyxia. AIMS AND OBJECTIVESTo evaluate the utility of cord blood nucleated red blood cell/100 WBC count in early identification of perinatal asphyxia and in predicting its severity. MATERIALS AND METHODThis is a case-control study with a total number of 100 subjects, out of which 50 are asphyxiated/case group and the other 50 are non-asphyxiated/control group, which include neonates born in Gandhi Hospital in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Immediately after birth, umbilical cord blood is collected and a thin blood smear slide is prepared which is stained with Leishman stain for NRBC count. The NRBC count of the case group and the control group is compared. The results were analyzed statistically. RESULTSThe mean NRBC count in case group was 38.3 and that in control group was 5.24 with significant rise in cord blood NRBC/100 WBC count in case group compared to controlled group with p value <0.001. Increase in NRBC/100 WBC count was also associated with increased severity of HIE in case group. CONCLUSIONIn conditions where blood gas analyzers are not easily available, cord blood NRBC count can be used as a cheaper and reliable alternative to predict perinatal asphyxia and to assess its severity.
Cysticercosis in humans is exclusively caused by larvae of T.solium which have predilection for skeletal muscle, eyes, and central nervous system. In literature head and neck manifestations of Cysticercosis is reported as soft tissue swellings at sub mental area, cheek as well as tongue 1-4. Cysticercosis presenting as a nodule or mass on neck is a very rare occurance 5. The diagnosis was usually made on Histo pathologic examination. The ensuing clinical disorder is named after the organism at this larval stage, cysticercosis cellulose Larva of pork tapeworm Taenia solium.
Thymolipoma is an infrequent benign, 'slow growing tumor of thymus. The tumor manifests as soft tissue mass in the Anterior Mediastinum, descends and occupies the cardio phrenic space and usually asymptomatic or sometimes due to pressure effect heaviness and chest pain are the complaints. We report a case of thymo lipoma in a 30 years old female complaining of heaviness and constricting type of chest pain of 1 year duration. CT scan findings were a space occupying lesion in the anterior mediastinum. The tumor was completely excised through 'Postero lateral thoracotomy'. Histopathological examination confirms the diagnosis. This is the first case we have reported from our institution.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
