Background: Cutting-edge web technology applications have improved the manner in which business is conducted, allowing organisations to deliver business projects effectively. There is an untapped potential to power up SharePoint as a business application platform for content management, knowledge sharing and collaboration within organisations. Objectives:The objectives of the study were to determine how SharePoint enables a retailer to share knowledge, collaborate and manage its content and to investigate the value brought by SharePoint to the organisation. Methods: An interview schedule was used to collect data in order to help determine what the SharePoint users' needs are and whether they are being met using SharePoint. Two developers of SharePoint in the organisation and a further 10 users of SharePoint were selected to determine if the application of SharePoint is meeting the users' needs. The findings of the interview schedule were analysed through a descriptive content analysis with the support of Atlas.ti as a qualitative data analysis research tool. Results:The research findings indicated that the platform does help employees in various ways, mostly enabling them to cut down on the time wasted in doing unnecessary tasks, such as manually creating projects by going to stores to collect performance reports. It also enabled the employees to effectively share business project reports and helped the organisations to project manage effectively. Conclusion:SharePoint has benefited the retailer tremendously, ensuring improved productivity through real-time access to information as a result of improved collaboration and project-related knowledge sharing. Findings further indicate the need for knowledge management practices through the platform.
Background: Business intelligence (BI) tools are generally associated with organisations that have resources to purchase and implement these tools. Evidences abound regarding the correlation between BI tools and improved business decision-making. This study’s unit of analysis is affordability as a feature of IBM Cognos making it suitable for small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).Objective: The research aim was to identify the fundamental features of IBM Cognos which would address decision-making needs of SMEs. The objective was to determine the significance of BI tool features by means of identifying affordable features suitable for SMEs’ decision-making.Method: Quantitative research design and a deductive approach were best suited for assessing the fundamental features of IBM Cognos for SMEs’ decision-making needs. The signification framework variables, such as presumed, prized and perceived value of BI tool features, werequantified and measured using statistical analysis tools. A non-probability convenience sampling technique was used with a sample size of 200, that is, 80 BI consultants, 60 SME BI developers and 60 SME managers. Results: Affordable key features of BI tools in the context of SMEs’ business decision-making include consistency and comfort, intuitive interface, avoiding impulsivity, cost effectiveness, availability of information, best programmed visualisations, reporting quickly and easily and financial decision-making.Conclusion: The signification framework’s presumed, prized and perceived value indicators link affordable BI tool features to the consistency of the decision-making process and present an alternative view of affordability. An intuitive interface relates to convenience and ease of authoring content, designing, building and securing reports to the SME, which helps inimproving consistent decision-making.
Results: Based on the findings, an equal distribution exists between seldom and often, which indicates tension about whether graduates seldomly demonstrated the ability to produce effective business innovation or whether they often demonstrated the ability to produce business innovation. Conclusion:Higher education institutions play a vital role in preparing graduates for the world of work by transferring knowledge. It is therefore significant for HEI's to transfer knowledge and skills that improve graduates' capability to innovate, think critically and solve complex problems and contribute to the SA economy.Contribution: Given the state of youth unemployment there is a need for universities to produce graduates capable of effective innovation. This article focused on determining whether graduates possess the knowledge and capability to produce business innovation from the knowledge and skills transferred by HEIs.
