Aim: The present study was conducted to evaluate the quality of rooster sperm at 5°C after treatment with a diluent containing coconut water, fructose, and chicken egg yolk and stored the semen sample at 5°C. Materials and Methods: Ten semen samples from 10 healthy roosters were subjected to four different treatments. For the treatments, 0.2 ml fresh semen with a sperm concentration of 5.2X109 cell/ml was mixed with T0 (no diluent), T1 (0.34 ml coconut water and 6 μl fructose), T2 (0.274 ml coconut water, 0.12 ml egg yolk, and 6 μl fructose), and T3 (0.34 ml egg yolk and 6 μl fructose) solutions. Each treated solution was stored at 5°C and evaluated both macroscopically and microscopically. Macroscopically, semen volume, pH, and sperm concentration were evaluated. The microscopic sperm characteristics examined included total motility (i.e., rapid, medium, or slow), progressive and non-progressive motility, viability, and spermatozoa abnormalities noted at different storage times. The results showed that spermatozoa motility was under 40%. Results: The results indicated that sperm viability significantly affected (p<0.05). The highest mean value of sperm viability on day 7 of storage was found after treatment with the T2 solution (46.100±0.5677%). Similarly, spermatozoa abnormalities were significantly lower after treatment with the T2 solution (6.680±1.702%). Conclusion: The addition of a diluent containing coconut water, egg yolk, and fructose helped in the better preservation spermatozoa motility, as well as viability for up to 7 days when the semen samples were stored at 5°C.
Background: Goat is one type of small ruminant that has a contribution to supporting the development of livestock and is an alternative to meet the needs of animal protein in Indonesian society. The current goat raising system is still carried out by being caged or semi-grazed. In this maintenance system, goats are very susceptible to parasitic diseases, especially those caused by the digestive tract worms. Gastrointestinal worms are a significant problem in livestock, especially small ruminants that cause health problems, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and decreased appetite. Purpose: To determine the percentage and types of digestive tract helminths in Etawa crossbred goats by age. Method: 30 feces samples from Etawa crossbred goats were collected for laboratory examination using native, sedimentation, and flotation methods. Result: From the microscopic examination, it was found that the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminthiasis was 56.6%. Also, the type of worm eggs found in the feces samples from Etawa crossbred goats were Cotylophoron cotylophorum, Moniezia benedeni, Oesophagostomum columbianum, Strongyloides papillosus, Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus sp., and Trichuris globulosa.
Background: Broiler chicken production is influenced by several factors, namely genetic, management, and environmental factors. Genetically superior chickens will not produce maximum results if not supported by a comfortable environment for chickens (comfort zone) because they are animals that will grow optimally at a certain temperature range. in addition, humidity also affects the production and health of chickens. So that the selection of the cage becomes important to create comfortable environmental conditions for chickens. Cage with a relatively stable temperature will greatly affect the production results, including body weight and feed conversion. Purpose: To determine the effect of temperature and humidity of semi-enclosed cages on weight gain and feed conversion of broiler chicken. Method: Observation was carried out during a period of maintenance of broiler chickens on farms and data collected in the form of the recording of chicken weight and feed conversion. Result: Temperature and humidity of semi-enclosed cages have a good effect on production results, with chicken harvest weight of 2197.3 grams and feed conversion of 1.52 kg. Conclusion: this study indicate that temperature and humidity have a good influence on weight gain of chickens and feed conversion value.
Cow's milk production in Indonesia can't fulfill national cow's milk consumption. As a result, Indonesian milk imports continue to increase. This study aims to observe and examine the effect of altitude on the quality and quantity of cow's milk production The study was conducted at three locations with different heights, consisting of highlands (1065 masl), medium (789 masl), and lowland (499 masl). A total of 10 FH cows from each farm under normal lactation conditions were used in this study. Environmental aspects including temperature and humidity are recorded for 30 days in the morning (07.00 WIB), afternoon (12.00 WIB), and evening (17.00 WIB). The temperature and humidity data of the environment is then converted to a Temperature Humidity Index (THI) value. Based on the THI value, lowland impacts moderate stress, medium and high stress impacts mild heat stress on dairy cows. Milk quality at the three study sites showed no significant difference (P> 0.05). This is because the composition of the feed rations given by the three farms is the same. Milk production at the three study sites were significantly different (P <0.05). With the highest production in the highland (14.36 liter/head/day), medium land (12.10 liter/head/day), and low land (10.48 liter/head/day). It can be concluded that altitude can affect cow milk production in all three farm locations.
Background: Estrus synchronization is a way to get a herd of cattle estrus at the same time. This method can increase the reproductive success of livestock, thereby increasing production and population. Purpose: To determine the estrus quality from estrus synchronized Boerja goats, in Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency. Method: Estrus synchronization using an intra-vaginal sponge contains hormone progesterone, combined with the injection of the hormone GnRH. an intra-vaginal progesterone sponge was inserted for 14 days. After 14 days, the goats were injected with the GnRH hormone, then placed in a cage with the male and observed for estrus quality. Result: the average onset of estrus was 40.6 hours, the average color of the goat's vulvar mucosa when estrus was 2.3 (dark pink), the average presence of mucus was 1.9 (excess vulvar mucus), the average mucus color is 2.8 (white), and the average temperature increase of the vulva when the goat is in estrus is 0.4 ° C. Conclusion: The observations showed that the estrus quality of the goats was very diverse and not all goats were able to show the maximum estrus quality. It can be due to genetic factors, body condition, and feed nutrition.
