Both the intermetatarsal angle and position of the tibial sesamoid reliably improved following arthrodesis of the first MTP joint, negating the need for a separate osteotomy of the first metatarsal.

We present our early experience with a simpler fibular osteotomy to correct the ankle joint alignment for malunited fibular fractures which was successful at short-term followup.

Arthrodesis remains a sensible and safe treatment option maintaining independent mobility without multiple operations or significant bone loss for 20-30 years which subsequently can be successfully converted to an arthroplasty.
