In order to redesign and convert the passenger ground vehicle Land Rover defender 110 into military vehicle for different surveillance and reconnaissance missions it is necessary, prior to equipment integration, to assess its future dynamic response. For this purpose, the 19-degree of freedom multibody simulation model of the defender was developed using the software package MSC.ADAMS/Car. The simulation model was validated using the instrumented experimental vehicle for two scenarios namely bump test and double lane change manoeuver. Comparison of numerical predictions suggests reasonably good agreement with the actual vehicle responses. The validated model was then used to assess the effect of longitudinal and vertical position of the added equipment on the responses of the upgraded vehicle. Lateral stability degradation due to the added equipment was also investigated defining the rollover threshold as an objective assessment criterion. The obtained results show considerable lateral stability degradation for both marching and operating heights of the added equipment.
One of the most important characteristics of the special (military) vehicles is possibility to move off-road. In order to achieve appropriate possibility characteristics, military vehicles need, beside other things, to fulfil geometric parameters of vehicle, traction characteristics, stability and ability to overcome obstacles of low load-bearing capacity. The contact between tire and ground is very significant for ensuring adequate performance of motor vehicles and great attention must be paid to it. With that in mind, this paper has developed and illustrated the method for calculating specific tire pressure on ground with use of image processing theory.
SIMULATION MODEL OF MULTIPLE PLATE FRICTION CLUTCHES AND BRAKES
Summary:Multiple plate friction clutches and brakes are used for gear shifting within planetary gear trains of motor vehicles. The developed simulation model of the friction clutch and brake enables the simulation and the analysis of the planetary gear train transitional processes during gear shifting and provides identification of relevant parameters without making numerous physical prototypes. Costs are thus reduced and time for developing new gear trains shortened, while the product quality is increased. The simulation model can be use additionally in developing steering systems of planetary gear trains for defining characteristics o ftheir components.
