The study aims to assess the impact of over weight on quality of life in preparatory school children. A survey study was conducted in El-Nahda and Eaasmat Afefy Preparatory schools in Assiut City during academic year2005\2006. The systematic random sample was used for this study on every fourth class. The total sample was 440 students girls. Every class contains about 55 girls. Three tools were designed specifically to collect data; first tool: Questionnaire sheet to assess demographic data; second tool: to assess weight and height of students and BMI and third tools : Quality Of Life (QOL) questionnaire sheet. The original scale was constructed by Lehman (1986) to assess (QOL) of students. Study showed that mean age of studied students was 13 years mean weight was 51.6 Kg, and mean height was 154 cm. The majority of students were normal weight 72.3% but 16.8% of students were at risk for overweight, only 3.6% of them were overweight and 2.5%obese, 4.8% of sample were under weight. Statistically significant differences were observed between the three categories of overweight in levels of QOL; while the majority of students had low Quality Of Life (83.8%) compared to only 16.2% moderate level (QOL) and no high (QOL) in the three categories. The school is an ideal setting for promotion of new health behaviors school health nurse and specialists in pediatric nursing should work in collaboration with teachers and other educator in the community to achieve positive outcome related to childhood overweight and obese.
Background: Persons with disabilities represent a significant portion of the world's population and they are part of every community. They find that information on reproductive health (RH) is often inaccessible to them. Aim: evaluate the impact of an educational program about RH for blind and deaf adolescent girls. Methods: it was Quasi-experimental research design which conducted in Al Noor and Al Amal Schools in Assiut Governorate. The total sample was 80 girls. Tools: it included three tools: -a structured interview sheet, to assess disabled girls' knowledge and attitudes towards RH and an observational checklist (using doll) to assess practice related perineal care. Results: All the studied sample (100%) has poor knowledge regarding to RH in pre test while their knowledge improved in post test to 58.8%. Regarding to perineal care, all of the studied sample (100%) carried out all steps of perineal care except three steps which include the correct direction for cleaning the perineum, while their practice improved in post and follow up test. Conclusion: All the studied girls have poor knowledge in pre test while after implementation the education programe their knowledge were improved (P= ≤ 0.001). Recommendation: Continues health education programs should be implemented for increasing awareness of them about reproductive health.
Autism is a neurological disorder characterized by qualitative impairments in social interaction, qualitative impairments in communication, and restricted repetitive, stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities. Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are relatively common without known etiology can be found in 80-90% of cases. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of a parent-focused intervention for autistic children on parenting stress at Assiut City. Subjects and methods: The study was Quasi-experimental research design. It was conducted in all autism centers at Assiut city which includes 7 centers and included 73 parents who agreed to participate in this study selected by convenient sample; this sample included 47 mothers and 26 fathers. The study included three tools: -a structured interview sheet, parents' knowledge assessment about autism, and parenting stress scale. The main results of the study indicated that there was highly statistically significant differences between mothers' and fathers' knowledge about autism (P-value = 0.000) in pre, immediate post-test and follow-up. Moreover there was highly statistically significant difference between Parental stress scale for mothers and fathers in pre-test and immediate post-test respectively (P-value= 0.000 *& 0.002*) while no statistically significant difference between pre-test and follow-up respectively (P-value= 0.152 & 0.417). The study Concluded that there was improvement of parents' knowledge about autism in immediate post-test and follow up; moreover the parents' stress level was decreased in immediate post-test than pre-test while the stress level again slightly increase during follow up test. The study recommended that: Nursing staff should play a much greater role in supporting parents and providing them with important information through pediatrics clinics, Maternal and Child Health Centers (MCH), and others.
Egypt is one of the countries in the world where the problem of obesity has been nearing an epidemic level. Currently, nearly 70% of adult women and 48% of men in Egypt are overweight or obese. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the health education programme to control obesity among female employees at Assiut University. A quiz-experimental design was used to apply health education intervention. A convenient sampling technique was utilized. Data was collected using two tools, the first tool, self administered questionnaire it cover two parts, part one included socio-demographic. Part two consisted female employees' knowledge about nutrition and obesity) the second tool Anthropometric measurements (waist circumference weight, height, and BMI). The mean age was 45.60 ± 9.65. The results illustrated that about three quarters (74.0%) of the studied sample has poor knowledge in pre-test compares to only (12.0%) in post-test had poor knowledge. Also more than one quarter (26.0%) of the studied sample had satisfactory level of knowledge in pre-test, while in post-test more than half (54.0%) of them have the satisfactory level of knowledge. There is a significant difference in pre/post tests of female employees' knowledge. Conclusion the health education program has an effective role in improvement of knowledge about balanced diet and obesity. Also, recommended that Booklets of Arabic language about obesity and management of body weight should be available in library of faculties. Increase public awareness about balanced diet, nutritional needs in every age group.
Background: The atmosphere in poultry houses, particularly where ventilation is limited, can adversely affect human health. Aim of study: Assess knowledge, attitude and practice of participants at poultry farms regarding occupational health hazards Methods: cross sectional study was used in this study concluded 400 participants from Assuit district One tool used; Interview questionnaire developed to collect data. It consist of five parts first part to assess socio-demographic characteristics, second part to assess medical history, third part to assess workers' knowledge, fourth part to assess practice of workers and fifth part is likert rating scale to assess workers' attitude. Results: Shows that 53.8% were 20-40 years, 40.2 % had secondary school, 71.7% had poor knowledge about occupational health hazards at poultry farms, and 34.8 % had positive attitude towards occupational health hazards at poultry farms. Conclusion: There was poor knowledge among poultry workers in Assuit distract while more than one third had positive attitude towards their work. Recommendations:. Workers must wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, mask and aprons.
