Kemiskinan sering kali berlaku terutama kepada mereka yang tinggal di kawasan luar bandar meskipun terdapat pelbagai bantuan yang telah disalurkan oleh pihak kerajaan. Hal ini turut berlaku kepada komuniti nelayan luar bandar yang tinggal di Tanjung Dawai, Kedah. Isu kemiskinan ini secara tidak langsung telah membawa kepada pelbagai cabaran hidup yang kompleks dalam kalangan komuniti nelayan tersebut. Oleh itu, objektif kajian ini adalah untuk meneroka cabaran hidup miskin yang dialami oleh komuniti nelayan di Tanjung Dawai. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif melalui temu bual mendalam yang melibatkan seramai 15 informan dalam kalangan ketua isi rumah nelayan yang dipilih secara rawak. Lokasi kajian telah dijalankan di Kampung Nelayan. Data daripada temu bual mendalam telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kandungan. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa komuniti nelayan mempunyai lima cabaran hidup miskin iaitu kesukaran menampung perbelanjaan harian, kesukaran melanjutkan pendidikan, kesukaran memiliki aset, keperluan melakukan pekerjaan sampingan dan ancaman gejala sosial. Kajian ini berupaya memberikan gambaran yang lebih jelas agar pihak berkepentingan lebih memahami cabaran hidup miskin yang berlaku dalam kalangan komuniti nelayan, seterusnya dapat merangka strategi yang holistik untuk pembangunan sosioekonomi mereka. Hal ini selari dengan agenda Matlamat Pembangunan Lestari (SDG) yang meletakkan elemen "No poverty" sebagai sasaran pertama yang perlu dilakukan oleh setiap negara bagi mengurangkan kadar kemiskinan dalam kalangan masyarakatnya.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the closure of various sectors in Malaysia including the education sector. The COVID-19 pandemic caused major concerns among postgraduate students. Little is known about the academic survival impacts of COVID-19 among tertiary students, especially among the postgraduates. Therefore, this article aims to identify the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on academic survival among postgraduate students in Malaysia. An online survey through Google Form is conducted in October 2020, participated by a total of 606 postgraduate students from different backgrounds. Several postgraduate students have high level of social relationships; however, they are facing problems in terms of academic performance and financial stress. This study suggests that strategies and actions are urgently needed between the higher education ministry and universities to ensure the academic survival among postgraduate students amid the pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has given significant impacts on students around the world. This pandemic had caused the closure of higher education institutions (HEIs), hence affecting the psychological well-being of the students. Currently, little is known about the psychological impact of the pandemic upon tertiary-level students. Therefore, this study aims to identify the psychological impact of the pandemic among postgraduate students in Malaysia, as well as to determine the relationship between psychological impact of the pandemic with postgraduate students' socio-demographic. An online survey through Google Form is conducted and participated by a total of 606 postgraduate students from different backgrounds. The findings indicate that most postgraduate students experienced panic and nervousness when thinking about their studies and feeling dejected with their academic progress. This study also reveals that the postgraduate student's socio-demographic (age, monthly income, source of income, study program, mode of study, and year of study) have significant relationship with psychological impact of the pandemic. This study is urgently vital for HEIs and relevant government agencies to assist them in formulating suitable policies and strategies in order to maintain a healthy psychological environment for postgraduate students amidst the pandemic.
Sejak pandemik COVID-19 menular aktif dalam negara, kerajaan telah melaksanakan perintah kawalan pergerakan (PKP) terhadap seluruh masyarakat untuk mengawal penyebaran virus. Impak pelaksanaan PKP telah mewujudkan pelbagai krisis sosial terutama isu keganasan rumah tangga (KRT). Justeru, artikel ini bertujuan untuk meninjau impak PKP terhadap isu KRT dari sudut faktor penyumbang dan peranan pihak pemegang taruh dalam menangani isu ini semasa PKP. Kajian ini melibatkan pengumpulan data sekunder dan analisis kandungan. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa sepanjang tempoh PKP, terdapat enam faktor penyumbang kes KRT, iaitu kekangan ruang persekitaran, pengaruh dadah dan alkohol, kebergantungan pada pasangan, ketiadaan sistem sokongan yang kukuh, konflik dalaman individu dan tiada ilmu tentang KRT. Terdapat beberapa agensi kerajaan dan pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) yang cakna menjalankan tanggungjawab mereka membantu dari segi kewangan, kempen, kaunseling dan perlindungan berhubung isu ini semasa PKP. Kajian ini dirujuk penting dalam memberi gambaran berkenaan isu KRT yang berlaku semasa PKP khususnya di Malaysia dan diharapkan agar pihak pemegang taruh dapat merangka strategi yang holistik bagi menangani isu KRT yang semakin kritikal di negara ini.
