Frozen shoulder causes significant functional disability and pain in a population group constituted by patients who are often middle-aged and working.Frozen shoulder remains poorly understood. The available literature is limited and often prone to bias.A rapid, non-surgical and cost-effective treatment that reduces pain and restores function is an attractive option.Hydrodilatation is a potential first-line treatment of frozen shoulder in secondary care.Cite this article: EFORT Open Rev 2017;2:462–468. Most clicky hips required no treatment other than reassurance to parents. Clicky hips with a normal hip examination should be considered a variant of normal childhood and not a risk factor for DDH. However, an abnormal hip examination including unilateral limited hip abduction should prompt urgent further investigations. Cite this article: 2017;99-B:1533-6.
'On the day' cancellations carry significant consequences. This article reviews all cases that were cancelled on the day of surgery within the general surgical directorate of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield from 2005 - 2010. 978 cancellations were made on the day of surgery. Most significant reasons were due to patients' fitness (40%) and lack of theatre time (21%). The conclusion is drawn that 80% of cancellations are avoidable or potentially avoidable, and we suggest implementation of further strategies to reduce cancellations.
Metal on metal hip (MoM) resurfacing / replacement has recently been one of the most discussed topics in orthopaedics. Significant revision rates and complications are associated with MoM. We report a patient presenting with infection of a total hip prosthesis in conjunction with a psoas abscess in which the presentation is complicated by radiological evidence of suspected metallic debris in the lower limb tissues and elevated chromium and cobalt levels, suggestive of metallosis secondary to MoM.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
