High resistance bridges (resistive bridges) are becoming more common. Such bridges cause speed failures. Published experimental results show that current tests are not good at detecting such defects. The following results, pertinent to resolving the above issue, are presented: mechanisms by which bridges cause speed failure; identification of non-classical transition tests for such bridges; and the usefulness and pitfalls of using low voltage testing to detect such bridges.
Synchronized phasor measurements have become the measurement technique of choice for electric power systems. They provide positive sequence voltage and current measurements synchronized to within a microsecond. The objective is to use the spanning tree approach and tree search technique for optimal placement of multichannel and minimum channel synchronized phasor measurement units (PMUs) in order to have full observability of Power System. The novel concept of depth of observability is used and its impact on the number of PMU placements is explained. The spanning tree approach is used for the power system graphs and a tree search technique is used for finding the optimal location of PMUs. This is tested on IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus system. The same technique is modified to optimally place minimum channel PMUs on the same IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus systems. Matlab tool has been used for fulfilling the objective.
The increased use of electronics for control and use of nonlinear type loads by consumers in the present power system network are injecting harmonics into the power signal, due to which the power quality issue has become more challenge for the present researchers. In this work, the reduced order generalized integrator (ROGI) and fuzzy logic control (FLC) are collectively used to reduce the current harmonics in the power system. FLC-SVM technique is used to maintain the process of SAF-Shunt active filter with fixed switching frequency. This proposed control technique consists of control loop for current to have fast and effective control. The Proportional Resonant controller is used to have control on voltage for a slow and effective control process which is also used to compensate reactive power. The shunt active filter is designed with the help of ROGI by integrating PI controller for fuzzy-based SVM to reduce the current harmonics on the load side. The results are achieved in MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
