The article discusses gender differentiation of mate selection criteria in heterosexual relationships, presenting the findings of a survey conducted in Greece among 77 students aged 19-29 who attend the Department of Social Work in the University of West Attica. The gender variable was the control variable for research cases and was used in the interpretation of the results. The results showed that in this particular group of educated young people differences in preferences in mate selection between men and women tend to be eliminated as a source of social development in the field of women's position and gender socialization.
Addressing a complex social problem, such as intimate violence, is neither simple nor easy. Since the period of the recognition of domestic violence as an independent criminal act in the international Conventions and the law of states, police performing was one of the main factors at the center of studies. In spite of interventions in the field of Police action, several studies have so far revealed the low level of domestic violence reporting to Police Authorities and the well-held perception in the consciousness of women victims that the Police cannot provide them with meaningful help, which is complicated by the very effect of abuse on their lives and their decisions. This article presents the findings of two surveys conducted in Greece during the implementation of a European project. The findings of these studies highlight once more the reasons for under-reporting domestic violence crimes to the Police, as well as the attitudes and perceptions of police officers on the phenomenon, the assessment of the operational preparedness and the obstacles in managing relevant incidents.
Children who experience violence in the family as witnesses of their mother's abuse by her husband / partner have been recognized by the international community in recent years also as victims of domestic violence for whom special interventions need to be developed. In many modern western culture countries according to the legislation, persons who identify these victims have to cooperate with police and prosecution authorities for the criminal investigation of cases. Within the educational community, cases of domestic violence are often revealed. Teachers are called upon to cope with them, often based only on their instinct or experience, without the support of a wider organized mechanism, or a network of services for support and guidance. This article develops a discussion on the role of the educational community in early detection of this form of child victimization, while the review of the literature highlights the critical points of intervention.
