JT format became ISO Standard ISO14306 in December 2012 [1]. It is the beginning of new effective CAD collaboration in Multi-CAD environments. In parallel it gives innovative IT providers the chance to contribute with advanced solutions to challenge the established IT vendors. Through smart combination with the upcoming STEP AP 242 XML for the first time a process-oriented solution for supporting automotive data exchange requirements is available.
Recent developments in information technology are influencing the field of engineering informatics in some profound ways. Nowhere is the influence more evident than in the use of Internet-based technologies and standards to share engineering and business information across a worldwide enterprise. In turn, the business need for collaboration among various players and partners in a globally integrated enterprise is driving the development and deployment of open standards, service-oriented architecture, and middleware. The convergence of these developments has provided us an opportunity to architect and implement a product information sharing service described in this paper. The architecture is service oriented and is based on the Object Management Group's PLM Services 1.0 specifications. It is implemented using IBM’s WebSphere Process Server middleware and PROSTEP’s OpenPDM software. This product information sharing service is one of the first industrial examples of a successful application of service-oriented architecture to product lifecycle management.

Zusätzlich hilft ein Stufenkonzept, um schnell den wirtschaftlichen Nutzen aufzuzeigen. Im Folgenden wird das und eine beispielhafte Umsetzung beschrieben.
Ships are complex, often unique products. They are made of hundreds of thousands to millions of single parts and components which have to be created and placed as part of the design process, managed in bills of materials for part manufacturing or purchasing and assigned to assembly stages for production planning and logistics. In this paper we will present our advances with the practical application of our 2017 analysis results of the differences between dedicated “intent-driven” ship building systems and more general mechanical CAD based systems [1]. Being able to evolve the digital master of the ship along the ship development process from contract design to manufacturing without information flow breaks – and eventually becoming a digital twin during the product’s operational life – is a major digital thread capability. The second important capability is configuration management, enabling involved parties to know which parts are currently valid for design, manufacturing and operation.
