The study title evaluate nurses’ practices toward application of Apgar scores for newly born baby at delivery room in Baghdad city for the purposes of finding the relationship between the nurses' practices and their demographic characteristics.A descriptive study was carried out in teaching and non teaching hospitals (Al-Numan General Hospital, Al-aluwa Delivery Hospital in Baghdad City from the 10th September 2012 to 10th January 2013. A purposive (non probability) sample of (20) nurses who are working inthe delivery room in these hospital. The data was collected through using constructed questionnaire which comprises (25) items add filled by using interview technique.The reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study and validity through a panel of experts. The data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistic that including frequency, percentage, and the application of inferential statistical procedures, which include Pearson correlation coefficient, mean of score, standard deviation and chi-square.The finding of the study there was no statistical significance differences between the nurses' practices and their demographic characteristics espial educational level, years of experience in the delivery room, years of employment in the nursing, and the finding of the study was indicated that the nurses have poor practices about application of Apgar scores for newly born baby at delivery room. The study recommended that nurses 'practices should beimproved toward application of Apgar scores for newly born infant at delivery room throughout establishment of educational program
Background: Today, vital signs play an important role in medical wards, to determine children at risk of deterioration. Aims of the study: The present study aimed to assess nurses' knowledge toward measuring vital signs for Children in medical wards at Ibn Al-Atheer Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Mosul City, and to figure out the relationship the relationship between nurses' knowledge and their demographic characteristics. Methodology: A descriptive design was carried out from 1st March until 30th June 2021 on nurses at medical wards in Ibn Al-Atheer Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Mosul City. A purposive sample for this study selected (40) nurses. The instrument is composed of two parts: part one included (7) items which focus on the nurses' demographic characteristics such as (age, gender, marital status, educational level, years of service in nursing, years of service in emergency wards, number of training courses in vital signs). Part two: which is consist of (32) questions. The content validity of the instrument consists of a panel of (12) experts. The dependability coefficient for knowledge is (0.83). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and significant at p-value ≤ 0.05 by using SPSS version (24). Results: Most nurses were in the age group between (20-29) years with (50 %). According to the gender, more than half of the study sample was female (52.5%), and having a secondary nursing school certificate was (57.5%). The years of service in medical wards are (1-9 years) were (77.5%), the nurses' knowledge which is moderate knowledge (52.5%), and find a significant relationship with the nurses' participation in a vital signs training course. Conclusion: The study Results revealed that the most nurses has moderate knowledge and a lower percentage of good knowledge. Also, a significant relationship between nurses' knowledge and the nurses' participation in training courses of vital signs. Recommendations: The study recommended organize the workshops for nurses who service in the medical wards, and training programs, and appropriate equipment for measuring vital signs in children available on medical wards.
Background: The present study aims to assess Nurse's practices toward care of neonates with hypoglycemia at neonatal intensive care unit in Al-Nasiriya City and find out the relationship between nurse's practices and their socio-demographic characteristics including: (gender, age, level of education, marital status, their years of service in nursing, years of service in NICU, and number of training session related to the subject). Aims of the study: To asses nurse's practices toward care of neonates with hypoglycemia and to determine the Relationship between Some Demographic Variable Such as ((gender, age, level of education, marital status, their years of service in nursing, years of service in NICU, and number of training session related to the subject). Methodology: A descriptive design used in the present study established was for a period from 1th \ September \ 2020 to 30th \ march \ 2021. The study was conducted on non-probability (purposive sample) of 40 nurses working at neonatal intensive care units in Al-Nasiriya city. A questionnaire format for the research purpose and composed of two part the first part including socio-demographic characteristics the second part including check list of nurses practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study and the validity through a panel of (12) experts. The data were described statistically and analyzed through the use of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis approaches which are applied by using SPSS version 22.0. Results: The results of the present study showed that (52.5%) of nurses at age (26-30) years. Regarding to nurses gender, all of them are females. Regarding to educational level, (42.5%) of nurses have nursing bachelor graduated. Also result about years of service of nurses, (77.5% & 100%) of nurses has (1-5) years of service in nursing and in NICU respectively. Regarding to participating in training session related to hypoglycemia in neonate, (17.5% & 2.5%) of nurses have participate in (1-2 &3-4) training session. According to the finding of the nurses' practice at the test the nurses have low level of practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia. Nurses indicated that the level mean of the score, there is low level of assessment of 40 (100%) at level (1-1.66) the mean of score and standard deviation are (1.25±0.087). Conclusion: The study showed that low nurses’ level of practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia during study. Recommendations: Nurses' training session on how to care for a neonate with hypoglycemia. Follow-up and evaluation of nurses' neonatal care practices in the NICU.
Background: Effectiveness of health educational program upon nurses’ practices toward care of newborn with neonatal jaundice in neonatal intensive care unit in pediatric teaching hospitals at Baghdad city.Objective: The study aims to apply a health educational program to improve nurse practical skills toward neonatal jaundice and find the relationship between the nurses’ practices and their demographic characteristics.Patients and Method: A Quasi experimental study was carried out in 3 teaching hospitals (Welfare pediatric Teaching Hospital, Central Pediatric Teaching Hospital and Al-Kadhimiyia Teaching Hospital) in Baghdad City from the 12th June 2015 to 28th of December 2015. The sample (30) nurses who are working in the neonatal intensive care unit. The data were collected through using constructed questionnaire which comprises (50) items. The questionnaire used in pre test before conduction of the program and post test 1 immediately after the application of the program, post test and repeated posttest 2 after two months from first post-test 1. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study and validity through a panel of experts. The data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistic frequency, percentage, and the application of inferential statistical procedures, which include Pearson correlation coefficient and chi-square.Results: The findings of the study indicated that nurses have poor practices in pretest. But post evaluation revealed good level of practices among nurses toward neonatal jaundice in the neonatal intensive care unit. The program reflects effects on nurse’s practices. There were no statistical significant association between nurses’ practices and their demographic characteristics Conclusion: There was no statistical significant association between nurses’ practice and their demographic characteristics. The study demonstrated that there was poor nurses’ practice at NICU toward care of newborn with neonatal jaundice before application program in pretest and good practices in post 1 and posttest 2
