This study investigates the relationships among medical drama viewing, parasocial relationship (PSR), and trust in physicians in real life. Analysis of two-wave cross-lagged survey data from 446 U.S. adults suggests that exposure to medical dramas at Time 1 predicts PSR with physicians in medical dramas at Time 2, which in turn predicts trust in physicians in real life at Time 2. Trust in physicians in real life at Time 1, however, does not predict exposure to medical dramas at Time 2 or PSR at Time 2. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
