Iatrogenic dermatitis in times of COVID-19: a pandemic within a pandemic Editor The pandemic of the 21st century COVID-19 emerged in Wuhan, China, and swiftly became a global phenomenon. The frontline barriers for preventing spread are hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE). The amplified hygiene practices and PPE as recommended have brought in its wake a second pandemica pandemic of dermatitis! 1 We reviewed the most prevalent types of iatrogenic skin damage among healthcare workers (HCWs), notably irritant, and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to PPE and hand hygiene
The crystal and molecular structure of the title complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction using visually estimated intensity data. The nickel compound has a = 13.965(10), b = 7.403( lo), c = 8.91 2 ( 9 ) A, p = 99.3(9)", Z = 2, and space group P2,/a, while the copper compound has a = 10.871 ( 8), b = 7.576(10), c = 27.579(7)A, (3 = 127.0(8)", Z = 4, and space group P2,/c. The co-ordination plane in the nickel case is tilted by ca. 22" towards the salicylaldimine plane and the two salicylaldimine planes have a significant step ca. 1.02 A at Ni. The salicylaldimine groups in the copper case are only slightly tilted relative to the co-ordination plane, which has a small tetrahedral distortion.
Structural and magnetic properties of an Fe-chitosan complex is investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy. From the isomer shift deduced from the Mössbauer spectra measured at various temperatures, it is concluded that the metal ion in the complex is in the high-spin Fe(III) state and is coordinated to at least five N and/or O ligands. The 4.2 K Mössbauer spectrum is magnetic with an internal magnetic field of 441 kG, considerably smaller than the ideal theoretical value for a high-spin Fe(III), suggesting a strong covalency between the metal and its surrounding ligands. The experimental data also indicate that the system undergoes a phase transition at around 100 K as evidenced by the appearance of a quadruple doublet Mössbauer spectrum. An analysis of the temperature dependence of the isomer shift indicates the harmonic coupling between the atoms to a reasonable approximation. From the analysis of the experimental data, a scheme for the Fe-chitosan complex has been proposed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
