PurposePerformance is considered to be a multi-dimensional construct with three underlying dimensions such as Task Performance (TP), Interpersonal Facilitation (IPF), and Job Dedication (JD). Yet, these dimensions exhibit high inter-correlations in many studies. This study explores the dimensionality of performance as perceived by managers in Indian Public Sector Units (PSUs) and its implications on the sustainability of performance practices in these organizations.Design/methodology/approachPerformance data of 588 PSU executives was obtained from their respective managers (162 in number) using a pen-paper survey. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) followed by a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was employed to test the dimensionality of the performance construct using SPSS 25 and AMOS 24.FindingsThe data obtained had best fit when performance was modelled as a second order factor with the three dimensions drawing on it as first order indicators. However, the measurement model with employee performance modelled as a one-dimensional first order factor had poor fit. This indicates that PSU managers do perceive an implicit differentiation between the performance dimensions, but the performance ratings do not explicitly reflect that differentiation.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first ever study in Indian context that explores the perception of PSU managers on performance dimensionality. It discusses if Indian PSUs could sustain the dynamism of the future workplace with the present performance management practices and makes relevant suggestions in that direction.
Accurate extraction of structural changes in the blood vessels of the retina is an essential task in diagnosis of retinopathy. Matched filter (MF) technique is the effective way to extract blood vessels, but the effectiveness is reduced due to noisy images. The concept of MF and MF with first-order derivative of Gaussian (MF-FDOG) has been implemented for retina images of the DRIVE database. The optimized particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is used for enhancing the images by edgels to improve the performance of filters. The vessels were detected by the response of thresholding to the MF, whereas the threshold is adjusted in response to the FDOG. The PSO-based enhanced MF response significantly improved the performances of filters to extract fine blood vessels structures. Experimental results show that the proposed method based on enhanced images improved the accuracy to 91.1%, which is higher than that of MF and MF-FDOG, respectively. The peak signal-to-noise ratio was also found to be higher with low mean square error values in enhanced MF response. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity values are significantly improved among MF, MF-FDOG, and PSO-enhanced images ([Formula: see text]).
Sustainability has assumed salience over the past years, thereby becoming a corporate mantra as well as a promising research area. Most sustainability studies have focused on environment friendly operations contributing to the concept. However, sustainability extends beyond environmental performance to also encompass economic and social performance. All the three factors combine to form the 'Triple bottom line (TBL) performance'. This paper is an empirical investigation of the effect of green supply chain (GSC) drivers on the TBL performance and the influence of TBL performance on operational performance of manufacturing companies in United Kingdom (UK). Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to reveal that GSC drivers like supplier and customer pressure and environmental purchasing positively influenced social and economic performance respectively, whereas ecodesign and production influenced all the three parameters of TBL performance. It was interesting to find that social and economic performance, but not environmental performance, had a significant positive influence on firm's operational performance.
PurposeExtant literature indicates the influence of anxiety on job insecurity (JI). However, the effect of financial anxiety (FA) on JI has received lesser attention. Further, there is a dearth of literature on this relationship during a global crisis, such as COVID-19, and more so in the Indian context. This study attempts to empirically explore the relationship between FA and JI in presence of moderators, such as gender, tenure and individual annual income.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 584 employees engaged in remote working in the information technology (IT) sector in India during the COVID-19 crisis. The data were analysed using SPSS 25 and AMOS 24. A hierarchical regression method was followed to test the hypothesis. In step 1, JI was regressed on FA in presence of control variables. In step 2, moderators, such as gender, tenure and individual annual income, were entered along with interaction terms.FindingsFindings revealed a significant positive relation between FA and JI. The moderating effects of gender, tenure and annual income on the relationship between FA and JI were significant and interesting.Originality/valueThe paper empirically studies the role of FA on JI of Indian IT employees during COVID- 19. It is a response to researchers' call to integrate the effect of different moderators on the relationship between FA and JI during a crisis that has direct impacts on both. The influence of moderators on JI was interesting in the reversal effects produced.
The study investigates the moderating effect of relational identification and organisation-based self-esteem (OBSE) on the relationship between meaningful work and prudence, as well as meaningful work and civic virtue behaviour, in the context of blue-collar employees working in the Indian aeronautical manufacturing sector (IAMS). Survey data collected from 312 blue-collar employees showed that meaningful work has a positive influence on prudence as well as civic virtue behavior only at high levels of relational identification and OBSE. These relationships were insignificant at the lower level of the moderators. The findings of the study hold significant research, practice, and societal implications, because meaningful work in the context of blue-collar employees of the aeronautical industry has not been studied before, though this industry has high growth potential.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
