Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui gambaran umum stress dan dampaknya pada mahasiswa yang dilihat dari kejadian sehari-hari. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Indonesia. Sebanyak 67 mahasiswa psikologi berpartisipasi dengan cara mengisi survey berbentuk pertanyaan terbuka tentang kejadian-kejadian yang menimbulkan stress serta dampak yang dirasakan dalam rentang waktu lima hari terakhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki lebih dari satu jenis stressor dan merasakan dampak dari stress di lebih dari satu aspek. Jenis stressor terbanyak yang dimiliki mahasiswa berasal dari intrapersonal (29.3%), yaitu berupa kondisi keuangan (23%) dan tanggung jawab di organisasi kampus (20%). Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa stress memiliki dampak terbesar terhadap aspek fisik (32%). Hal yang sangat sering dirasakan adalah kelelahan dan lemas (21.1%).

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasional. Sebanyak 300 mahasiswa dari empat kelas di Universitas Indonesia berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Dari 300 data, hanya 253 data peserta (70 pria dan 183 wanita) yang bisa diproses. Penelitian dilakukan dengan meminta peserta mengisi kuesioner yang terdiri dari Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOTR) untuk optimisme, Gratitude Questionaire-Six Items (GQ-6) untuk rasa syukur, Achievement Motives Scale-Revised (AMS-R) untuk motivasi berprestasi, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) untuk stres, dan Social Provisions Scale (SPS) untuk dukungan sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan antara optimisme dan stres (r=-0.158; p<0.05); optimisme dan motivasi berprestasi (r=0.15; p<0.05); optimisme dan rasa syukur (r=0.267; p<0.05); dan optimisme dan dukungan sosial yang dirasakan (r=0.351; p<0.05). Hal ini bermakna bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat optimisme mahasiswa, maka semakin tinggi pula rasa syukur, motivasi berprestasi, dan dukungan sosial yang dirasakan, serta semakin rendah tingkat stresnya.

Bartone (2007) Optimsm As a Psychological Predictors in Midwifery Students ABSTRACTThis research was conducted to investigate the correlation between optimism and self-esteem, career decisionmaking self-efficacy, hardiness, and resilience among midwifery college students. This research is quantitative with correlational design. Sample used are midwifery college students in the area of Jakarta, Banten, West Sumatera and West Java. Overall, 571 midwifery student was participated in this research by filling out the questionnaire consisting of LOT-R constructed by Scheier, Carver, and Bridges (1994), Rosenberg's Selfesteem Scale constructed by Rosenberg (1965), CDSE-SF that constructed by Taylor and Betz (1983), DRS 15-R that constructed by Paul T. Bartone (2007) and was adapted by Lukman in Indonesia (2008) and CD-RISC constructed by Connor and Davidson (2003) and was adapted by Campbell-Sills and Stein (2007). The result showed that four variable had a positive correlation with optimism, which mean that if all increased, score of optimism on the midwifery students will also increase. On the other hand, variablity score of four variable was predictable by they correlation with optimism.
College students are prone to psychological distress due to their own characteristics. Numerous experiences happened around these populations, such as academic pressure, love life problems, family issues and so on. College students are emerging adults that most likely doing things to explore many aspects in their life. Religiosity is one of many aspects from emerging adult"s life that is being explored while they are still in college. Previous study using college student found that college students show decreasing religious practice. Meanwhile it is known that the more religious a person the lesser his or her psychological distress. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between religiosity and psychological distress among college students. HSCL-25 and CRS-15 is used to measure psychological distress and religiosity in 1,959 college students from several cities of Indonesia. The finding is that 4 from 5 dimensions of religiosity have a significant relationship with psychological distress.
The main objective of the recent study was to explore the association between parents' marital status and psychological distress in college student. The sample consisted of 1024 students from various colleges in Indonesia (297 men and 727 women). Psychological distress was measured by the Bahasa Indonesia version of Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25 (HSCL-25). The result of descriptive statistics proved that most of the participants had high psychological distress. Participants raised by married parents tend to have lower psychological distress than participants raised by widowed or divorced parent(s). The analysis of each aspect showed that participants raised by widowed parent had higher anxiety than participants raised by married parents. Meantime, participants raised by divorced parents had higher depression compared to participants raised by married parents. It also indicated the interactions between gender, parent's marital status, and psychological distress. These findings could be reference for academic counselor to enforce a prevention program for college students who may suffer from high psychological distress, especially for college students who raised in divorced or widowed families.
