Purpose Trainees’ motivation to transfer the training imparted is an important constituent in determining required training outcomes in organizations. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of trainee characteristics, training attitudes and training need analysis on motivation to transfer training. Design/methodology/approach Research hypotheses were tested using a survey. A questionnaire was used to collect data from employees of an Indian governmental power transmission organization, attending any one soft skills training programme in the past year. Out of the 500 questionnaires distributed, 389 were deemed useable for the study, producing an effective response rate of 77.8 per cent. Findings The findings establish a direct and positive association between trainee characteristics, training attitudes and need analysis with transfer motivation. Originality/value This study contributes to extant literature by examining associations in hitherto underexplored areas such as that of training attitudes and training need analysis with transfer motivation. In addition, the findings provide insights into challenges pertaining to transfer motivation in soft skills training initiatives.

For such public opinion measurement, various survey tools and techniques are available. With the sudden increase in text based social media, lump of people simulcast their point of view and ideas on a large range of issues. We can study this data available from public to conclude population attitudes to understand the current trends of the market. This study presents a very easy, costand time effective approach that expose the opinions of much larger public (not bounded by any geographical boundaries) which otherwise would have been not possible. The study presents an exhaustive study on the efficiency of R language in opinion mining and how opinion data can be extracted from twitter database. Extorting the opinion of people from social media text provides a rich and interesting context of database to analysis.
Purpose This paper aims to synthesize existing knowledge on trainee motivation to transfer (MTT) soft skills training through a systematic literature review (SLR). Design/methodology/approach By applying a rigorous reproducible process, this SLR identified a total of 33 peer-reviewed articles on MTT in soft skills training. Findings The systematic review offers several important findings. First, research on MTT has accelerated in the recent past with studies conducted in varied geographic contexts. Second, MTT has been operationalized and measured as an antecedent and mediator of training transfer as well as an outcome itself is sampled papers. Third, MTT is recognized as critical in facilitating the transfer of soft skills. Finally, an investigation of empirical studies helped locate gaps in research methodologies, measurement of MTT and finally its predictors. Research limitations/implications The study is limited by the search string and its choice of peer-reviewed articles published in the English language only. Originality/value In the absence of systematic reviews on MTT in the context of soft skill, the study contributes immensely by providing an updated, cogent summarization of extant work and potential directions for future research/practice.
For successful project outcomes to organizations and clients alike, project managers (PMs) need to make ethical decisions and yet balance the interests of all stakeholders involved. Hence, honest communication among project stakeholders is essential as a countermeasure to this paradox. Honesty is one of the core ethical values propagated by the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA. Our study aimed to gain an endogenous perspective on honesty vis-à-vis its reification by PMI in its effect on software project performance. Empirical data were collected through in-depth interviews from 83 Indian PMs in one of the prominent Indian software consulting organizations. Grounded theory was utilized to analyze the data obtained. Our results validate the importance of honesty on software project performance, the need for trust among stakeholders in maintaining honesty, importance of Indian culture in understanding honesty and ensuing ethical challenges faced by PMs. Our results bear implications to extant research on honesty in projects with specific reference to the Indian software context. They are important for PMI professionals as they provide a culture-specific perspective to honesty and the scope for ideation on how to inculcate and sustain honesty in project management in India.
