Introduction: The Iliolumbar artery mainly arises from the posterior division of the internal iliac artery. It extends oblique superiorly and laterally in front of the sacroiliac joint and lumbosacral trunk. It crosses the obturator nerve and external iliac vessels & reaches the medial edge of the psoas major. The aim of our study was to know the origin variability of the Iliolumbar artery. This helps to prevent any iatrogenic injury during various surgeries. Materials and Methods: 50 formalin-fixed adult human pelvic halves with known sex were procured from the Department of Anatomy, Medical College, Baroda. Site of origin of the Iliolumbar Artery was identified. Results: In the current study, we observed that the origin of the Iliolumbar Artery was from the posterior division of IIA in 52%, 38% from the trunk of the internal iliac artery, 4% from the single trunk with obturator artery from posterior division, and 6% absent. Conclusion: The variable origins of the ILA from different branches of the internal iliac artery should be taken into account during the surgical procedures involving the lower abdominal & pelvic region so as to modify the surgical tactics to prevent undesired hemorrhagic complications.
Introduction: Oxidative stress has emerged as one of the important factors of aging as well as various diseases including hypertension. A Few changes in lifestyle like food habits and exercise leads to significant decrease in the oxidative stress and inflammation which in turn improves the endothelium functions. Aim: The present study was designed to assess and compare the effect of lifestyle modifications on oxidative stress in elderly essential hypertensive patients as well as in normotensive elderly subjects. Materials and Methods: One hundred four normotensive elderly subjects of group I and one hundred eighty-six elderly hypertensive patients of group II between 60 to 80 years of age successfully completed three months lifestyle modifications program conducted in the department of physiology, Santosh Medical College Ghaziabad. Oxidative stress markers GSH, SOD, MDA and blood pressure were measured before and after lifestyle modification program. Results: The findings of the present study showed that SBP (p<0.001), DBP (p<0.001), MAP (p<0.001) were significantly low in group II hypertensive patients in comparison of group I normotensive subjects. Value of SOD increased significantly in group II hypertensive patients in comparison to group I normotensive subjects.
One of the major problems faced by health care professionals is the prediction of airway difficulties in apparently healthy subjects. Failed endotracheal intubation is a well-known reason for increased morbidity of patients including brain damage or even death. This study is focused on parameters used for prior determination of airway for predicting difficult intubation in healthy Indian populations. This study was done on 500 healthy individuals. Neck parameters were measured including inter-incisal distance, neck circumference, thyro-mental distance and sterno-mental distance. Mallampati classification and mandibular protrusion test were also carried out. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software (V.25). MC class 3 and 4 percentages were higher in males in comparison to females. Mandibular protrusion test grade A and B percentage was higher in females while class C percentage was higher in males. The comparison of baseline values of the neck parameters (inter-incisal distance, neck circumference, thyro-mental distance and sterno-mental distance) was statistically significant (<0.05) in both genders. The purpose of the study is to find out the baseline values of parameters involved in assessing methods for difficult intubation in healthy Indian population.
