North Eastern Region (NER) of India has immense resource potential to develop tourism Of late, tourism industry in North Eastern States (NESs) has taken a lead and has done fairly well in the last 12 years or so by attracting more tourists to the region. The study reveals that Assam is the leading state in terms of overall inflow of tourists' in the region while Sikkim proves to be preferred destination of foreign tourists among NESs. Present study also reveals that Sikkim is better prepared to host both domestic and foreign tourists in the NER. The paper makes an attempt to explore the reasons for Sikkim's popularity among foreign tourists visiting NESs and the effect of increased influx of visitors on tourism sustainability in the region.
Ever-increasing crude oil prices across the globe coupled with high cost and sustainability concerns attached to hydro power generation led to exploring new avenues for switching to alternate/renewable energy than ever before. The present study sheds light on the prospect of promoting cow dung as an alternative source of energy with respect to tiny mountainous state Tripura and its role on socioeconomic development. Available literature provides the impression that energy from cow dung can be produced from biogas or by burning the dried dung to a power steam engine. The state has been blessed with cow dung across its rural centers, which are primarily used as bio-manures for agriculture and adjoining sectors. Centralized mobilization of these resources for energy generation have already paid rich dividends for states like Tamilnadu, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, and other parts of India. This study examines the viability and challenges associated with power generation from cow dung for Tripura and presents a case for its adoption.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the struggles of State controlled tourism destinations in the peripheral areas. Governmental management of tourism makes it harder for destinations to be market oriented. Despite having a host of scintillating attractions across its territory, the State of Tripura in India is yet to come up on the international or even national tourism map. This study draws from literature and secondary data to understand destination marketing issues in Tripura and offers insights that could be generalized to similar destinations. It is observed that, the lethargy created by governmental agencies created an opportunity for nongovernmental agencies to pitch in and become change agents. A blessing in disguise here is that this has helped to create various sustainable, community oriented, social tourism ventures.
India's North Eastern Region (NER) stretches from the foothills of the Himalayas in the eastern range and is surrounded by international borders with countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, China (Tibet Autonomous Region), Nepal, and Myanmar. The landlocked region is constrained by a brief spell of insurgency, and dismal unemployment has affected the region's progress since 1947. The advent of the Look East Policy coupled with a number of South Asia sub-regional arrangements with neighboring countries opened a “Pandora's Box” for this region. The SASEC initiatives of ADB helped to improve the status of tourism and infrastructure, including roads, air connectivity, and also opened cross-border land routes and roads within the North East (NE). The present study takes stock of tourism development from a sustainability perspective and examines the implementation of the SASEC tourism project in eight NE States of India with a view to suggest priority areas for action for promotion of tourism in this region.
Digital inclusion in banking services was drafted to provide fast and uninterrupted services to a broad pool of customers with an aim to extend financial services to unprivileged groups. Competitive edge associated made it a vibrant policy for bankers across the state with varying degrees of application to suit the customer needs. The present study explores the extent of digital banking interface help improve the status of rural banking in Tripura on the basis of secondary data. Taking cue from four CRISIL Inclusix in view (i.e., branch penetration, deposit penetration, credit penetration, insurance penetration), results are indicative of Tripura's progress in rural front becoming one of the best performing state among NESs. The study again specifies that proper policy measures, vis-a-vis its implementation could place the state amongst top five digitally inclusive states in India and also promote much desired cashless economy and transparency among others.
