The present study attempts to uncover the impact of internal CSR on internal stakeholders, i.e., employees. Through a comprehensive literature review, relevant variables for the study were identified such as internal CSR, the perception of procedural justice, organizational attentiveness, extraversion, and turnover intention. Drawing on signaling theory, we answer why employee’s willingness to quit an organization is less if the organization performs well on internal CSR front. We also propose that internal CSR increases the organizational attractiveness as it reflects the prevalence of welfare practices and procedural justice in the organization. Since the organization is perceived procedurally just employee's willingness to quit the organization is decidedly less particularly employees having extrovert nature.
The current study presents the review on entrepreneurial leadership since year 1980. Concept of entrepreneurial leadership, and its development so far were captured. Drawing on the comprehensive literature review of 50 studies, we have presented the measures used in the prior literature to capture the main construct of entrepreneurial leadership. Dimensions such as strategic factors, communicative factors, personal factors, motivational factors and leadership behaviors contribute to form entrepreneurial leadership. Various antecedents of entrepreneurial leadership such as human capital, social capital, entrepreneurial mindset, ambidexterity, and uncertainty absorbing, challenge framing, clearing path, commitment building and limits specification were identified. Outcomes such as wealth creation, strategic management of resources, innovation performance, startup performance and creativity were also identified. The possible traits of entrepreneurial leaders such as performance oriented, ambitious, informed, extra insight visionary foresight, confidence builder, diplomatic, effective bargainer, convincing, encourage, inspirational, enthusiastic, team builder, improvement-oriented, integrator, intellectual stimulation and positive attitudes are found.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and empirically validate items on social isolation. The comprehensive literature review of existing studies on the measures of social isolation, loneliness and the related construct was conducted. The paper seeks to conceptualize, validate and present items to measure social isolation. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on theoretical and empirical investigation of the measures of social isolation, loneliness and related constructs such as social others, social loneliness and feeling of sociability. The items were generated through theoretical exploration of previous literature and later modified. The author examined the items through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and further checked for external criterion validity. Data collected from 128 individuals, in India, were examined to design and validate the scale. Findings The finding of the paper is a ten-item social isolation scale. Using structural equation modeling, we have found extraversion and well-being significantly associated with final items in the present study, confirming the external quality of the scale. Practical implications Organizations may benefit by close examination of the presence of social isolation in employees along with providing support and assistance to employees so as to reduce negative consequences of social isolation and can address the well-being of the employee. Originality/value There is a dearth of developed and validated measures of social isolation in the literature. The study reveals the conceptualization and empirical validation of measures of social isolation in the Indian context so that researchers can move forward to develop theories on social isolation.
PurposeThe study aims to understand the phenomenon of workplace ostracism from multiple perspectives (target, perpetrator and observer). The understanding of the phenomenon is used to thematically analyse the antecedents of workplace ostracism and identify appropriate strategies for each antecedent.Design/methodology/approachThe study findings are based on face-to-face semi-structured interviews with thirty-three senior and medium-level employees from various public and private sector organizations in India. The interview transcripts were systematically analyzed to identify antecedents of ostracism, which were inductively grouped together based on similarity.FindingsThe antecedents of workplace ostracism were grouped into four major heads: perceived non-alignment with organizational needs; emotional reaction; unconscious social processes and structural and demographic differences. Based on interview transcripts, strategies to reduce the effect of each of the broad antecedents of ostracism were identified.Practical implicationsWorkplace ostracism has been linked with multiple negative outcomes including increased stress and turnover intention. The study provides managers with a framework that enables them to evaluate and understand incidences of ostracism among their subordinates. The study also equips managers with the knowledge of specific strategies for dealing with specific antecedents of ostracism.Originality/valueThe study answers the need to look at the phenomenon of ostracism through multiple perspectives. It identifies multiple potentially new antecedents and strategies to deal with workplace ostracism and groups them in a coherent manner. It is among the few studies on ostracism in India and extends the generalizability of the construct.
