This article discusses how the Association of Boards of Certification develops certification exams that are used by many water and wastewater operator certification programs throughout the US and Canada. The following major steps in the exam development process are discussed: defining critical job tasks; writing and reviewing questions; and, creating the exam.
This session will provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas related to the development of training and certification programs for biosolids land appliers. Points of discussion will include:1. Setting up a voluntary certification program -We will explain the steps, such as developing a voluntary certification board, creating standards for the program, and providing valid certification examinations that are a necessary part of a certification program. 2. ABC certification -The Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) completed the development of its biosolids land appliers certification programs in 2008. The elements of ABC's Certification Program will be described during the presentation. 3. A case study: Training initiative in Colorado -The training and certification efforts being implemented by the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association will be shared with the audience. 4. Training and certification resources: A list of resources that may be utilized in developing training or becoming certified will be provided during the presentation.
