Herniotomy is performed for the surgical repair of hernia and along with orchiopexy for the closure of associated patent processus vaginalis. Ligation of the hernial sac has been considered mandatory for a successful repair. The present report was designed to study the results of non-ligation of the hernial sac before excision at the neck. It was found that non-ligation has no untoward effect on early complications and recurrence rate on long-term follow-up. It is suggested that it is not necessary to ligate the hernial sac during herniotomy in children.
Endoscopic management of pancreatic pseudocyst is quite an effective and safe mode of treatment in experienced hands. ERCP before the procedure is only required when the cyst does not bulge into gut lumen, for a decision about the feasibility of transpancreatic drainage. On long-term follow-up, recurrences were seen only in the alcoholic pancreatitis group. In the biliary pancreatitis group, no recurrences were seen after cholecystectomy and removal of common bile duct (CBD) stones if present. No recurrences were seen in the trauma group.
Infertility has become nowadays not only a medical, but a social problem as well. The study was conducted on 40 patients of primary infertility over a period of one year from January 2001 to December 2002. The aim was to evaluate causes of infertility by diagnostic laparoscopy. The average age of women was 26.8 years. About half of the patients were brought to hospital within 6 years of infertility. Tubal block was one of the major causes of primary infertility. The diagnostic laparoscopy with hysterosalpingography (HSG) can be helpful to diagnose the tubal pathology.
