This research aimed to know whether students' reading comprehension can improve with use Contextual Guessing Technique and to know how the implementation of this method in reading class. This research used action research classroom. The finding of the research was the students more enthusiast in answering the reading's question. The test result came from first cycle and second cycle. It showed improvement. The conclusion was the students need learning technique relate with their learning level. Contextual Guessing Technique is one of the appropriate techniques in reading class for senior high students. This case proved by the students more motivated and spirit in learning English especially in reading. Therefore the students got good score.Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah pemahaman membaca siswa dapat ditingkatkan dengan menggunakan Contextual Guessing Technique dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan metode ini dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dalam membaca bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) sebagai metode penelitiannya. Temuan penelitian adalah siswa lebih antusias dalam menjawab soal reading. Hasil tes dari siklus pertama dan siklus kedua menunjukkan peningkatan. Adapun kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah siswa membutuhkan teknik pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan level mereka, Contextual Guessing Technique adalah salah satu teknik pembelajaran untuk reading yang sesuai, hal ini diperoleh dari hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, siwa lebih termotivasi, siswa lebih bersemangat dalam belajar bahasa Inggris sehingga hasil nya pun lebih bagus.
English lecturers play a vital role in making their students to communicate well in English. They should be able with new and innovative teaching skill and strategis in the classroom to enhance students skill significantly. This research is motivated by the importance of having good English speaking skills, especially for English teachers. The traditional learning methods has been less successful in improving students’ speaking skill. Therefore, one of the solutions offered is to use the Techno Driven Task (Zig Zag Task) in teaching speaking skill for students. This study aims to determine the speaking skills of English students at Pasir Pengaraian University by using computer-aided Techno Driven Task (Zig Zag Task). The research designs is descriptive quantitative research. The participants of this research was the fourth semester students of English Study Program in University of Pasir Pengaraian. The number of samples of this research was 19 students. In collecting the data, the researcher took from students’ presentation when they were using zig zag task. The results showed that the level of students’ speaking skills was at a reasonable to very good level and only a few students had poor skills.
Technology of podcasting becomes a popular teaching media in education nowadays. It gives the students opportunity to study anytime and anywhere. It is flexible, dynamics and powerful to improve students listening comprehension. It gives new challenge in the context of language learning especially listening that as first skill of language acquisition. This was a classroom action research study. It aims at identifying the listening improvement of third semester students of Informatics Management at AMIK Mitra Gama academic year 2019/2020 by using podcasts. The participants were 24 students(3 MMI class). Finding of this study showed that utilizing podcast can improve not only student’s listening comprehension achievement (66.96% in fisrt cycle to 68,29% in second cycle) but also student’s participation (46,67% in cycle 1 to 56,67% in cycle 2). In sum, podcasts can be an attractive media in teaching listening at AMIK Mitra Gama.
This study was aimed at first investigating whether or not the use of songs significantly give effect as media in teaching English. Second, the difficulties faced by the students in learning English were also investigated. This quasi experimental research involved two classes of students of agriculture in UMTS. The data were collected through pretest, posttest and questionnaires. In analyzing the collected data, quantitative research method was employed. Furthermore, the data taken from questionnaires were also investigated to find out the difficulties faced by the students in using songs as media in learning English. The study found that the use of songs likely improves students' motivation in learning English. It was evidenced by tobt (6.542) that greater than tcrit. As the result of the study, the null hypothesis of this research was rejected; the use of songs is likely to give effecct in learning English.
The education sector is one of the sectors most affected by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lecturers must ensure that teaching and learning activities continue even though students are at home. Learning innovation in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 is a solution that needs to be designed and implemented by lecturers by maximizing existing media such as websites. Optimizing the Lecturer Personal Website is a learning model solution that can be used to deal with the current New Normal Era, especially in the field of education. The learning model through lecturer personal websites aims to optimize the role and function of the website and get added value or benefits that students get from using the Web (E-Learning). This research was conducted at STAIN Mandailing Natal using qualitative descriptive methods. The research data were obtained through recorded interviews with 8 informants, classroom observation, documentation, and literature study. This study used the interactive model data analysis technique of Miles and Huberman. The results showed that the personal role of the lecturer website was as a facility to support the quality of Islamic Law learning at STAIN Mandailing Natal. It has function as means of accessing E-Learning that is easier, more cost-effective, attractive and interactive and serves as a discussion tool for students. Students are more enjoy and full spirit in the learning process because they are cover in getting information and learning materials needed in learning Islamic Law.
