SynopsisIntravenous injection of 40 or 4 MRC U of porcine calcitonin in 9 old patients with chronic non-endocrine disorder caused a marked fall in serum immunoreactive gastrin in a dose related manner. This finding is consistent with the observation of Sizemore et al.(1973) who have found a decreased serum gastrin in the patients with medullary carcinoma of the thyroid and suggests the inhibitory effect of calcitonin on the secretion of gastrin in man.
