This research was done to determine the sun protection factor (SPF) of sunscreens available at commercial market, in-house developed samples involving chemical and physical sunscreens and in-house developed samples involving Schiff base compounds using ultraviolet spectrophotometry. 10 in-house topical herbal sunscreen emulsions formulation were evaluated based on the MED equation for UVB sunscreen substances. The repeatability of the method was tested. It is observed that the proposed spectrophotometric method is simple, rapid and repeatable for the in vitro determination of SPF values of sunscreen products. The proposed spectrophotometric method is simple and rapid.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
