Aim To assess the effect of Training NANDA‐I Nursing Diagnoses, Nursing Interventions Classification and Nursing Outcomes Classification (The NNN system), on the nursing care related to the patient safety, in psychiatric wards. Method In a randomized controlled trial, 80 nurses were selected randomly and assigned into two, Control and Experimental, groups. Nurses documented reports, reviewed and analysed in terms of using the NNN system. The intervention of the study was the training of the NNN system, based on recognition of the signs, symptoms and aetiology of the important phenomena in the psychiatric wards. Results The Control Group used the NNN system ( N = 34), both before and after the intervention, while the experimental group usage increased from ( N = 26)–( N = 434). Therefore, the NNN system training, can improve the nursing care related to the patient safety in psychiatric wards.
The simultaneous existence of low assertiveness and high anxiety in nursing and midwifery students leads to the disruption of study performance. There exists little information concerning their assertiveness. The purpose of this study was to determine the relation of assertiveness and anxiety in nursing and midwifery students. In this correlational, cross-sectional study, 173 nursing students (68 males and 105 females) and 77 midwifery students were recruited from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran. Data were collected using a questionnaire including personal-social factors, the Spielberger Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Assertion Inventory of Gambrill and Richey. More than half of the nursing and midwifery students (59.5% and 59.7%, respectively) had moderate assertiveness. Also, 43.3% and 36.4% of them had moderate and high levels of anxiety. Pearson correlation test revealed that assertiveness and anxiety had negative correlations in nursing (r=-0.51, P < 0.001) and midwifery (r=-0.449, P < 0.001) students. Some demographic variables had significant correlations with assertiveness and anxiety among the students. Considering the relation of assertiveness and anxiety and its effects on mental health and educational and occupational performance, students should be informed of the required skills for positive interaction with others and to increase assertiveness and decrease anxiety.
Background & Aims:The growing sophistication of modern diseases demands a critical level of nursing competence, which could enhance the quality of patient care and patient satisfaction with nurses. Nursing competence is influenced by several factors, such as the clinical environment, work experience, motivation, theoretical knowledge, and personal traits of nurses. In addition, critical thinking could affect the competence of nurses. Critical thinking enables individuals to make decisions and take actions when there are no specific answers, and opposing forces influence decision-making. Critical thinking is a fundamental process for safe, efficient, and skilled nursing in various situations and is also essential to the competence of healthcare professional for the assessment, diagnosis, and effective patient care. Regardless of the correlation of these two variables, competence and critical thinking should be evaluated separately since they are vital to the management, provision, and fulfillment of healthcare services. Therefore, it is possible to ensure the quality of the healthcare services provided to patients by determining the educational needs of nurses and the area that requires improvement. The assessment of these criteria not only assists nurses and managers to be aware of the quality of the competence and critical thinking of nurses, but it also identifies their cognitive deficiencies and weaknesses for their rectification and improvement. Introduction:Patient satisfaction is one of the most effective tools in assessing the quality of health and planning to improve the health system. Considering the importance of this issue in this research, patients' satisfaction with nursing care and services in Iran through systematic review is examined. Materials and Methods:The present systematic review study was conducted using the search strategy of Cochrane with keywords: Patient Satisfaction, "Nursing Care", "Iran" in databases like PubMed, Scopus, Magiran, SID search. Finally, 33 papers were found without time limits until April 2019. The review was carried out with the steps of data extraction and the evaluation of the quality of studies and the reporting of the findings. Results:A total of 165 articles were finally extracted from 33 articles related to the title of the study. The majority of studies show a high level of patient satisfaction with nursing care. However, other studies have reported a controversial outcome. In addition, nurses' job satisfaction, nurses' psychological characteristics, occupational nursing dimensions, nurses' spirituality, type of hospital, type of ward that patient are hospitalized, patient literacy level, health insurance and gender as factors that can affect patients' satisfaction are under the influence of nursing care. Conclusion:Regarding the important role of patient satisfaction with care services in improving the patient and improving the quality of health care, health policy makers should pay particular attention to removing relevant barriers and problems from both the patient and the nurses.
