We report a case of appendiceal neuroendocrine tumor (NET) . A 58 -yearold man came to our hospital complaining of recurrent right lower abdominal pain. After series of clinical examinations, we considered this symptom to be caused by fecal stone in appendix, thereafter, we performed laparoscopic appendectomy. Pathological examination revealed an appendiceal NET in the body of the appendix, but there were no risk factors for recurrence or metastasis, and we decided to follow up the patient without adjuvant therapy. Appendiceal NETs are rare tumors and are often discovered incidentally on posterior pathological examination. In Japan, neuroendocrine tumors of the appendix are classified according to histological atypia, whereas the WHO classification is based on cell proliferative capacity. And Japanese guidelines for neuroendocrine tumors provide surgical protocols in accordance with the WHO classification. In reviewing this case, we referred to the latest 5th edition of the WHO classification and reviewed the case reported in Japan.
