Routine pre and post operative physiotherapy interventions improve physical outcomes and quality of life in women undergoing corrective surgery for urinary incontinence and or pelvic organ prolapse.
differ after therapy (median 4 vs. 4, p = .782, 55 vs. 53 cmH2O, p = .099). Visual analogue scale (VAS) pain from 0-100 for individual pain parameters, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Quality of Life (AQoL-6D) were completed. Women who reported baseline pain for individual pain parameters had improved dysmenorrhoea (median 72.5 vs. 52, p = .015), low back pain (median 55 vs. 47.5, p = .002), dyschesia (median 45 vs. 30.5, p = .031) and non-menstrual pain (median 53 vs. 41, p = .018) at 3 months. Dysmenorrhoea and low back pain remained improved at 2 years (median 60, p = .013, 60, p = .009). AQoL scores significantly improved from baseline to 2 years in compliant participants (median 0.63 vs. 0.69, p = .022) compared to noncompliant (median 0.72 vs. 0.81, p = .152) women. Furthermore, women who had no other medical or surgical co-intervention for their pelvic pain had an improved AQoL at 2 years (median 0.72 vs. 0.84, p = .002) while those with co-intervention did not (median 0.68 vs. 0.69, p = .534). Conclusions: Physical therapy may improve certain pain outcomes and quality of life in the long term. It offers an alternative for women whose symptoms have been unresolved by standard medical and surgical therapy. * Corresponding author. Objective: To demonstrate tips and techniques for successful robotic assisted laparoscopic myomectomy of large uterine fibroids.
