The research focuses on forming tolerance in profession-oriented text translators as part of the process of developing their sociocultural competence. To this end, the author analyzes the notion of "tolerance" in Russian, German and English linguistic culture and the specifics of profession-oriented text translators' work. Based on a survey of professional translators, the concept of "profession-oriented text translators' tolerance" is considered a personal professional quality (in this case, related to geologists). The author justifies its importance and proposes a model for forming translators' tolerance at four stages of developing the sociocultural competence of profession-oriented text translators. This professionally important quality will help translators successfully carry out cross-cultural communication in their professional sphere.
The subject of the research is building up learner autonomy in vocationally-oriented language learning (VOLL) in Russian institutes of higher learning (IHL). In order to achieve this target, the authors made use of LMS MOODLE and worked out the stages that facilitate the process of learner autonomy formation. These include: the stage of self-diagnostics, cognitive and creative stage and that of evaluation and assessment.Throughout the course the students learn to set goals, make priorities and independent decisions. They become more motivated and focused on the individualization of the learning process, get particularly interested in their future profession and life-long learning, master the learning material much better and faster, get accustomed to acquiring innovative techniques and methods, developing different groups of skills which contribute to success in becoming mature and autonomous learners.The article analyzes the pedagogic conditions to be provided to help students get used to the new learning standards and environments. The authors believe that such pedagogic conditions as students' high value of autonomous learning, students' training to work independently in LMS MOODLE, teachers' ability and motivation to implement MOODLE will help facilitate language learning and take full advantage of the LMS. Special emphasis in the article is placed on the notion of learner autonomy and the necessary groups of skills to develop learner autonomy.On the basis of the research which has been carried out for a number of years, the authors prove the fact that after completing the three above mentioned stages of the course, the IHL students tend to become more autonomous and independent learners who are better prepared and equipped to apply their new vision of the learning process to multiple areas of life.
The article proposes an integrative model to form sociocultural competence of the translator of professionally oriented texts in the subject area “Geology”. Theoretical justification of the proposed model is provided. The efficiency of the model is proved by the results of experimental teaching carried out at Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. It showed that the use of the developed methodology when teaching translation of sociocultural information, concepts promotes students’ more purposeful training for future professional activity.
The subject of the present research is the peculiarities of training of would-be translators in sociocultural genre specific features translations of vocationally-oriented discourse, e.g. geological discourse, taking into account the traditions adopted in professional communication in Russia.With this objective in view, the authors of this research have conducted a survey of professional translators and defined the most widespread genres in geological professional communication. To identify the specific features of geological genres, we, having discourse approach in mind, analyzed field diaries and geological reports by Russian and German professionals. The performed analysis allowed us to determine sociocultural similarities and differences of the above mentioned genres since they make a significant impact on the source text translation strategy. This article examines the ways and techniques of translation of sociocultural differences. It also proposes and describes a method of teaching translation of vocationally-oriented discourse genres through electronic discipline-related corpora as a source of background knowledge in translating vocationally-oriented discourse.
Aim. The main goal is to identify not only the religion of the Roma ethnic group, but also their relationship to God, and their experience of faith in the Covid-19 pandemic situation. In the contribution, the authors point to the perception of the personality of the priest as a spiritual shepherd, but also as a figure who leads them to a moral and Christian life. Concept. This scientific study thus points to the classic experience of spiritual life in various selected situations, and identifies the importance of a pandemic situation for a person’s Christian life. Methods. The study deals with several aspects of experiencing the spiritual life of the Roma community, and points out and identifies their thoughts about life during selected social activities. The authors point to important studies that show the connection between the pandemic situation and the issue of faith and religion in the Roma community. Results. The study confirms that the pandemic situation had an adverse effect on experiencing spiritual life in the Roma community, but we can state that Roma carry on their spiritual life despite all the measures in their individual, family community, with the support of other community members. and a priest. Conclusion. The scientific and professional contributions in this study point to the inner experience of spiritual life in the community through individual and family relationships, and the presence of a priest who is supposed to lead the Roma to a spiritual life in accordance with morality.
