The article presents an analysis of the phenomenon of “clip thinking” in the educational and cognitive activities of students of natural and physical-mathematical educational profile. The involvement of clip thinking in the initial stage of cognition in comparison with rational and theoretical thinking is theoretically substantiated. An empirical verification of the originality of cognitive processes of students of natural and physical-mathematical educational profile in the situation of comparing traditional linear (textual) and hypertextual way of presenting information is established. Deficiency of cognitive processes characteristic of clip thinking for results is revealed, which is characterized by characteristics of mental (theoretical) level of cognition. Therefore, the next stage of cognition should be the understanding of information through the mechanisms of comparison, generalization, categorization and re-synthesis.
Consideration of clip thinking in aspect of functional asymmetry of the brain. The article provides a justification for the relevance of the study of clip thinking in the aspect of functional asymmetry of the brain. Today there are significant changes in the cognitive style of perception and processing of new information by modern youth due to the active usage of various gadgets. Such changes significantly affect the peculiarities of working with educational information in applicants for secondary special and higher education. The authors give a decisive role in these changes to the factor of functional asymmetry of the brain, which depends on the features of cognitive activity in this aspect. The article analyzes modern research on this issue, in particular, the content and relationship of the concepts of "functional asymmetry of the brain" and "clip thinking". There is presented empirical study, as a result of which it was found that the activity of the right frontal part of the brain dominates in the perception of information with the majority of respondents. Also, it was found that the so-called "clip thinking" is inherent in less than half of the subjects. Basing on the experimental study, there have been determined correlations between this type of thinking and the corresponding cognitive style, and the activity of the right frontal part of the brain.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
