Purposecurrent study intends to examine key human resources practices (human capital, training and rewards) that influence employee commitment and service recovery performance (SRP) of Takaful industry agents in Southeast Asian region. The Takaful industry is facing stiff competition with conventional insurance industry in Malaysia and Indonesia as the Southeast Asian region has a large Muslim population. SRP is crucial in insurance industry specifically in the Islamic Insurance (Takaful) industry and plays a vital and key role in sustainable competitive advantage for value addition for firms in future to acquire market.Design/methodology/approachThe data was collected from 350 front line agents of the Takaful industry operating in Malaysia and Indonesia on convenience sampling technique. Data was analyzed by using PLS-SEM to examine the relationship between constructs.FindingsThe results show that human capital, training and reward significantly influence commitment of employee which further influenced SRP to be improved. Mediation effect was also found to be influential and statistically positive and significant by employee commitment between key HR practices (human capital, training, rewards) and SRP.Originality/valuecurrent study contributed to the body of knowledge in explaining relationship of human capital to employee commitment and SRP, further, inconclusive findings between training and rewards was also explained in the Takaful industry of the Southeast Asian region.
The purpose of this study is to examine the environmental trend of tourism industry in the region of Thailand. For this objective, six dimensions for tourism and five for carbon emission as environmental factor is observed. Time duration of the study consists of 2000-2014 with annual observations. Data is collected from official webpage of world development indicator for the regression analysis. Findings of the study indicate that carbon emission through manufacturing and construction industries and carbon emission from other sector has their significant impact on tourism industry in Thailand. These findings are providing reasonable evidence for their regional and managerial implication as significant attention is required to control the harmful effect of environmental indicators on tourism industry. In addition, practical implication of the study can be expanded to other economies in ASEAN region like Malaysia and Indonesia as well. However, limitations of the study can be considered through considering of only one dimension of environmental factor (carbon emission), while ignoring others. Meanwhile, study is limited to the contemporary time duration and application of advance econometric techniques. Future studies can be reconsidered while overcoming these limitations.
BackgroundThe psychological distress of nursing students is ongoing and getting worse during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Numerous calls for future research on exploring the effects of perceived social support would be an effective way to improve nursing students’ mental health. However, the pathway(s) between perceived social support and psychological wellbeing (PWB) remain unknown.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to explore how self-compassion and professional self-concept mediate the relationship between perceived social support and PWB to explain the theoretical mechanisms of the relationship.DesignThis study is the analytical cross-sectional research based on online self-reports and completed validated measures of perceived social support, PWB, self-compassion, and professional self-concept.MethodsThe Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used to estimate the mediation effects on the relationship between perceived social support and PWB. To examine the directionality of effects, this study also tested the reverse serial mediation model. Multigroup SEM was used to test gender differences in the mediation model.ResultsThe results of an empirical study involving 487 undergraduate nursing students verified an integrative model of social support. In addition, no gender difference was found in these associations. These findings suggest that self-compassion and professional self-concept accounted for the association between perceived social support and PWB, and self-compassion was a significant predictor of professional self-concept.ConclusionThere is a pathway of self-compassion and professional self-concept through which perceived social support may improve PWB. Also, improving nursing students’ perceived social support, self-compassion and professional self-concept are beneficial for promoting their mental health. It is meaningful for nursing educators to take measures to develop nursing students’ PWB and enhance their professional self-concept.
