266ChemInform Abstract The air-stable, crystalline solids (IVa) and (IVb) as well as the air-stable liquid (IVc) are prepared as shown in the scheme. The silicon(II) inserted carboranes (III) are also produced as a by-product in < 1% yield. These silicon (II) species are extremely sensitive to air and/or moisture. In each of these reactions the neutral nido-carborane (V) is isolated in varying yields. The reaction of the silane (VI) produces (VII) which reacts with NaH in THF to yield (VIII). The spectroscopic (IR, 1H, 11B, 13C and 29Si NMR) characterizations indicate that the silicon atoms in (VII) and (VIII) can be either η3-or η5-bonded to the C2B3 faces of the carborane cages. The structure of (IVb) (space group P21/n, Z=2) is determined by an X-ray analysis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
