Drip irrigation is an important way to alleviate the global water shortage. However, the emitter-clogging issue of drip irrigation directly affects irrigation uniformity and operation efficiency, even disabling the whole system and reducing crop production. Currently, with the widespread use of saline water and large-scale utilization of fertigation, the issue with the chemical clogging of emitters has become more prominent. The poor uniformity of irrigation and fertilization distribution caused by emitter clogging results in salt damage and fertilizer loss due to the complex clogging mechanism. However, no extensive information on chemical clogging is available. Herein, we surveyed the latest research on chemical clogging caused by saline water irrigation and fertigation in drip irrigation systems and described the clogging mechanisms of the emitter by analyzing the key factors, clogging rules, and substances. We also present a framework of the control technologies for clogging based on physical, chemical, and biological methods. Finally, we present the current challenges of fertigation with saline water and technical trends of emitter clogging in the drip irrigation system. To conclude, the efficient integration of these three methods is critical to prevent and eliminate chemical clogging.
Reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is an important part of the water and energy cycles during crop growth. Understanding the influencing factors and spatiotemporal variations of ET0 is of positive significance for guiding regional water-saving irrigation and regulating agricultural production. Data for daily meteorological observations of temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and sunshine hours from 40 surface meteorological stations and the methods of climate tendency rate, Morlet wavelet, M-K mutation, path analysis, sensitivity analysis, and contribution rate analysis were utilized, to analyze the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and influencing factors in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region from 1990 to 2019. The ET0 from 1990 to 2019 was 958.9 mm, and there was a significant downward trend in the climate tendency rate of −3.07 mm/10 a. The ET0 presents a spatial distribution pattern decreasing from southwest to northeast. A change in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region’s interannual ET0 occurred in 2016, with a decrease of 41.12 mm since then. The ET0 was positively correlated with temperature, wind speed, and sunshine hours, and negatively correlated with relative humidity; among those, wind speed and temperature are the dominant factors affecting the change of ET0. This study provides a scientific basis for the regulation and control of agricultural production in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.
Aquaponics is a green and efficient agricultural production model that combines aquaculture and vegetable cultivation. It is worth looking into optimizing the proportion of fish and plants to improve the quality and yield. However, there is little non-destructive monitoring of plant growth in aquaponics monitoring systems currently. In this paper, based on the Internet of Things technologies, a monitoring system is designed with miniaturization, modularization, and low-cost features for cultivation-breeding ratio research. The system can realize remote monitoring and intelligent control of parameters needed to keep fish and plants under optimal conditions. First, a 32-bit chip is used as the Microcontroller Unit to develop the intelligent sensing unit, which can realize 16 different data acquisitions as stand-alone extensible modules. Second, to achieve plant data acquisition and upload, the Raspberry Pi embedded with image processing algorithms is introduced to realize edge-computing. Finally, all the collected data is stored in the Ali-cloud through Wi-Fi and a WeChat Mini Program is designed to display data and control devices. The results show that there is no packet loss within 90 m for wireless transmission, and the error rate of environment parameters is limited to 5%. It was proven that the system is intelligent, flexible, low-cost, and stable which is suitable for small-scale aquaponics well.
