In recent years, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education has become important in many countries around the world. In this study a bibliometric analysis was applied to evaluate the scientific results of STEM education in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, indexed in the Scopus database for the period 2000-2019. A total of 175 publications were taken from the Scopus database for analysis. Our main findings show that the trend of research in this field has shown a dramatic increase in scientific production in the last three years, when the published amount accounted for 67.43% of the collection. Authors with the most publications came from the top 10 universities and research institutes (accounting for 38.44%). Scholars in the ASEAN region tend to submit their works to Q3 and Q4 journals in the SCImago database. Diverse research with basic and cross-cutting topics focus on STEM education for undergraduate students, engineering education, and education computing.
Article HistoryThe aims of this study are two-fold. First, the existing literature is reviewed to establish a framework with which to evaluate the evolution of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) in terms of policies and practices. The framework comprises four factors: (i) national vision and strategy; (ii) curriculum and educational materials; (iii) tests and examinations; and (iv) teacher training programs. Second, this framework was used to analyze RME implementation in Vietnam, based on data obtained from document analysis and participant observation. From the experiences of other countries, several sustainable and suitable guidelines are proposed for the further practical and efficient application of RME in Vietnam. This study also outlines some possible directions for future RME research.
Contribution/Originality:This study contributes to the existing literature by: (i) introducing an analytical framework with which to evaluate RME in terms of policies and practices; and (ii) demonstrating the application of that framework to RME in Vietnam.
Despite several initiatives and policies that boost international-indexed publishing, the outputs of social sciences in general and educational science of Vietnam in international academic databases such as Clarivate Web of Science (WoS) or Scopus are still modest. This study examined the factors affecting international-indexed publishing among Vietnamese educational researchers. A framework for determining the influential factors was developed comprising three dimensions (policies, capacities, and networking) with 15 sub-factors, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model was employed to estimate the relative importance of these factors on international publishing. A survey of Vietnamese educational researchers at higher education and research institutes was undertaken, of which 80 returned validated answers, which after analysis were reduced to 49. The study revealed that the most important factors were collaboration with domestic and international peers and receiving support from research assistants or supervisors. A closer investigation revealed differences between senior and junior researchers regarding issues such as the accessibility of scientific documents, research data, and time for research.
<p style="text-align: justify;">The learning management system (LMS) is a crucial component of the e-learning transformation which is becoming more urgent amid the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. The issue of adopting LMS is even more decisive in developing countries, where lots of efforts have been put out to broaden educational opportunities. However, there has not yet been any comprehensive analysis of how LMS-related issues are examined in these countries. To address this gap, this study uses the bibliometric method to construct an overview of research on this topic. The results unveil the distribution of the literature, prominent actors, and dominant themes in the literature of LMS in developing countries. In summary, the topic is a robustly potential research matter. Future researchers can use this study as a starter when investigating relevant subjects.</p>
