A meme has become a communication trend in social media. Although it tends to contain humor, memes have become the identity of a community group. Many memes in Minangkabau language contain folklore. As one form of a cultural symbol, it is a possibility that memes are a transformation of the previous culture. This article presents the survival of the Minangkabau folklore in the digital era, which are in memes form. The object of this study is the Minangkabau language memes on Instagram. Search and collection results are then grouped according to their visual form and contents. The analysis shows that there is still a folklore content in many Minangkabau memes, including rhymes, proverbs, pepatah petitih, myths, legends, and people's beliefs. In general, the content of folklore in memes is conveyed through satire which sometimes tends to be sarcastic. Indirectly this also shows that netizens as folk are a significant element in the development of the Minangkabau folklore.
As it's evolved, the Minangkabau idiomatic expression now appears in different forms in the internet world and has a form that most often appears as its transformation. This paper presents various interpretations of the Minangkabau proverb in meme form. The object of the study was a Minangkabau language meme collected from several accounts on Instagram. The memes are then sorted into groups of text and images. The analysis is done by comparing the similarities and differences between the actual meaning of the saying proverb with the meaning contained in memes. Through memes text, images, and content in the Instagram account, there are expansions of the Minangkabau proverb interpretation as a social product. At the same time, the interpretation shows the survival of the Minangkabau traditions in today's digital era.
The rapid spread of a meme thought to influence both individual and social behavior. The meme uses symbols to convey ideas and ideas. In practice, memes are also used as a means of patriarchal power legitimation through symbolic violence. Through the processing of language and images into symbols, memes are thought to be a tool of men's legitimacy. This article discusses several forms of content of harassment against women in the form of internet memes. First, the memes are analyzed by grasping the meaning of the symbols in them using semiotics' theory. Then, using Pierre Bourdieu's symbolic violence theory: habitus, capital, arenas, and symbolic violence, memes are analyzed to find the factors that cause the appearance of memes with the content of harassment against women. The results indicate that stereotype, gender bias, and mental structure are habitus structure which plays an essential role so that symbolic violence becomes natural for its victims. The internet, as an arena, has become the initial capital for men to dominate. Also, naming and mentioning are forms of symbolic violence against women by forming certain boundaries and categories.
<em>Folklore (folktale) expresses the culture shared by a particular community. Comparing different folktales from different countries means viewing literature and culture comprehensively.The purpose of this study is to reveal the local wisdom about man and nature from three different countries by taking advantage of local and foreign folktales as teaching media for literature and culture. The three folktales used are from Japan, Indonesia, and America.The four functions of folklore offered by Bascom are chosen as one of the approaches used to analyze the three folklores from three different countries. Hereinafter, the exploration of local wisdom of each country is carried out to find the uniqueness and richness of culture.The results of the research reveal the Japanesse local wisdom in Tanabata San no Hanashi are hard working and discipline. Meanwhile, the local wisdom of Indonesian (Minangkabau people) in Kaba Malin Deman are leaving home town (merantau); treat guest well; stay with another family; one good deed deserves another (moral obligation); bathing as diversion. The local wisdom of the American (Indian/Caddo people) in Buffalo Woman, a Story of Magic fulfilled three of the Ten Indian Commandmen, they are Remain close to the Great Spirit, Treat the earth and all that dwell there on with respect, and Take full responsibility for your actions. In conclusion, the functions of folklore have correlation with the local wisdom about man and nature. Man must respect the nature where he/she lives and responsible for the actions taken. The teaching of literature and culture cannot be separated from the local wisdom of a nation.</em>
