Industrial heritage represents a specific type of heritage provided by human societes which emerged as a product of industrialization when certain objects were abandoned. Environmentalists and people employed in the tourism industry implement the idea of revitalization on this locations and give new functions to abandoned factories, which is crucial for their later development. There are many industrial zones where tourism can be promoted as a useful instrument of regional restructuring and economic development. Thus, the transformation of industrial heritage in the Rhur area (Germany) is presented in this study, where significant structural changes occurred due to the decline of the mining and metallurgical industry. Key sites used as an example of this transformation of industrial heritage into tourist attractions are located in the central part of the Ruhr area, stretching across the Emscher park. The development effects (environmental, economic, socio-cultural) of industrial heritage tourism and their implementation through certain recultivation procedures within the Ruhr area are also discussed in the paper. All this stand as a good example of sustainable development, where tourism served as an instrument of revitalization and conservation of industrial heritage. This positive approach and experience from Germany could be applied to similar areas and regions across European continent.
Nowadays, the most common medium used to promote tourist destinations is the internet. Amongst the great advantages of the internet in the tourism business is that it enables the customer to have much easier and direct access to a very large amount of up-to-date information and visual description of desirable location than traditional printed media.It is nothing new to claim that tourism and maps are inseparable. Some web sites from countries where tourism is a major source of income, or destinations that depend on internet marketing, still make little use of maps, or at the most very simple and static maps. Alternatively, there are interactive maps that come into common use in recent years. These maps provide interactivity with their users by giving them exactly the information that is desired, saving time and space.Because of the unique and attractive landscape of the loess region of Vojvodina, there are some intentions by certain organisations to develop and promote this area as a geotourism destination. The purpose of this study is to present web-based dynamic maps from geographic sources promoted on the internet that could be later integrated into official websites.
This paper evaluates the application of the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in the monitoring and assessment of temporal vegetation cover changes (from 2006 to 2014) in three municipalities of Central Serbia: Topola, Jagodina and Kuršumlija. Additionally, special focus is placed on the analysis of the forest areas and the possible use of NDVI in the forest management sector. Results of the NDVI applied through Idrisi software identify all vegetation cover types and their typical values for presented case studies and observed periods. Obtained results for Serbian case studies indicate two major observations outlined for the investigated period. It was noticed that vegetation cover is experiencing a certain decrease, and that certain discrepancies exists between the NDVI and official forest area statistics for certain municipalities. The study outlines the positive outcomes of the applied remote sensing techniques, especially for southern Serbian municipalities where illegal logging activities are pronounced. Hence, this method proved very promising for countries performing national forest inventories, such as Serbia, providing local forest managers with several essential up-to-date information about vegetation cover changes on an annual basis.
Both environmental control and appropriate measurement results present basis for the quality protection of geospatial elements. Providing environmental monitoring activities and creating control network is the obligation of each state, whereas local communities provide observation and control of air quality, water quality, waste quality, soil quality, vegetation and land cover control, etc. This has been the reason for the analysis of vegetation of the municipality of Jagodina in Serbia. By processing satellite images, data on the sources of pollution and polluting materials of the vegetation have been discovered. These include spot (stationary), linear (mobile and stationary) and surface (stationary and mobile) sources. While processing satellite images by the Idrisi software, we have acquired results that indicate certain vegetation modifications (images obtained through infrared spectral imaging). Results obtained through remote sensing indicate the necessity to define adequate vegetation monitoring, to complete a register of pollutants, to set up information system and define ways of data presentation in order to manage a single, complete register of environmental pollutants in the municipality of Jagodina.
⎯ This study presents the climatic and bioclimatic conditions at Zlatibor, as well as their modification and distribution over the year. Zlatibor Mountain is a popular tourist destination in Serbia, and it stands out as a mountain of exquisite natural and anthropogenic values. Information about climate and bioclimate is presented by using physiologically equivalent temperature (PET), and universal thermal climate index (UTCI) over 10-day periods. The Climate-Tourism/Transfer-Information-Scheme (CTIS) was also used as it displays climate and bioclimate information for tourism purposes based on thresholds of relevant parameters and the frequency of occurrence. The weather suitability index (WSI) was calculated as well, because it provides synthetic information about suitability of weather for different forms of recreational and tourism activities. The results obtained in this study were used to develop a bioclimatological leaflet for Zlatibor, which could be very useful to the tourism industry and stakeholders in decision-making, but also it will enable tourist to choose the best time for holiday depending on personal preferences and requirements.
