This study is focused on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) methodology and academic achievement due to the fact that academic achievement is a core learning process which also involves a problem solving task. A quasiexperimental design was employed in this study, where 45 pre-service teachers undertaking a B. Ed (Economics) were randomly assigned to the experimental (n=23) and control groups (n=22). The PBL method was utilised in the experimental group while the traditional learning method was utilised in the control group. The analysis focused on comparisons between the PBL and traditional learning groups in terms of their Academic Achievement Test (AAT), a series of one-way between group analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) tests, in which pre-AAT was used as a covariate when looking at differences between the PBL and TL groups in mid-and post-AAT. Regarding the effects of PBL on pres-service teachers' academic achievement as measured by an instrument, the AAT showed at baseline no differences existed between the two groups. The PBL method yielded significantly higher Achievement scores at mid-intervention and post-intervention test, which indicated better students' academic achievement. The study findings showed the positive effects of PBL towards pre-service teachers' performance in academic on Business Education in Malaysia.
This study was conducted to ascertain the management of safety in secondary schools located in the Northern Kinta District, Perak. The aspects of school safety studied were social dimension and physical dimension. This study was also conducted to find out whether a significant relationship existed between the social dimension and physical dimension towards school safety. The study sample consisted of teachers who had undergone the Higher Order Thinking Skills (KBAT) Course for Lower Secondary and a questionnaire was utilised as the study instrument. The data collected was then analysed to ascertain the practices, effects, limitations and findings from the school safety management programme which had been conducted for 11 years. The data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0 and also using descriptive analysis in the form of percentages and frequencies. The findings showed that 6 factors had a significant co-relational relationship (Truancy, Fights, Classroom safety, Workshop safety, Laboratory Safety and Fire Safety) and only two factors were not significant (Bullying and Co-curriculum activities safety). The R2 value was moderate at .482 which showed that the 48.2% change in school safety was due to the eight independent variables. This showed that there was a significant relationship between the social dimension and physical dimension. As such, the study findings showed that the safety practices were important in influencing the study environment at school especially for the students as they needed to feel safe from any disruption or risks of accident.
The study aims to develop and test a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Learning Module the KPD3016-Teaching, Technology and Assessment course as one of the pedagogical strategies that will assist and become a benchmark for lecturers or educators in promoting and strengthening the abilities of students and graduates of the Bachelor of Education degree programmes in soft skills (such as thinking skills, self-learning, group work, communication skills, leadership, entrepreneur, etc). The module produced is current and innovative and it can be used by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) lecturers in empowering the teaching and learning process in the KPD3016 course. The research findings may contribute relevant information and knowledge in implementing the use of PBL approaches in the teaching and learning process in study programmes at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and other higher education institutions in Malaysia as well as provide a foundation for the construction of other PBL conceptual training modules. Contribution/ Originality:This study is unique as it is the first focuses on the integration of the PBL method in the development of modules for the Bachelor of Education degree in UPSI. It combines a qualitative and quantitative study by using a validity and reliability questionnaire, interview and observation. This approach is appropriate in the context of this study, as it focused on the construction and development of a PBL-based module for the teaching and learning of the KPD3016 course -Teaching, Technology and Assessment in UPSI.
Since a decade ago, the Malaysian educational system has undergone a tremendous transformation due to recent technological advancement. To achieve the targets in the Malaysian Educational Blueprint, comprehensive usage of technology is crucial, not only in teaching and learning but also in management and administration. This study had been conducted using online administered questionnaires. About 80 secondary school teachers randomly selected in northern states of Malaysia, managed to complete all the questions in the questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS. It was found that organizational culture and technological acceptance influenced the 1BestariNet application but service quality did not. As such, this study had been conducted to fill in the gaps in previous research, especially in terms of the extent of the influence of service quality, organizational culture and technology acceptance on the 1BestariNet application. Future research directions were recommended at the end of the paper.
