Ever since the usage of alternative media has grown tremendously, it was seen that the increasing amount of interactive online sites that are categorized as Web 2.0 systems has changed the communication and collaboration among knowledge workers. These systems provide greater interactivity and higher user-generated content. Social networking site is one type of online platforms that allow people to collaborate and communicate through a variety of services for social purposes (Broughton, Higgins, Hicks, & Cox, 2009). These high-flying social networking sites are driving new forms of social interaction, allowing users to intermingle and cooperate with each other in a social media dialogue nowadays by swapping ideas or posting updates and comments. It is crucial to comprehend how social relationships affect the content share between each knowledge worker in a virtual world. This project investigates how work and friend relationships can influence the utilization of social media systems for knowledge sharing. The effect of the element of sentiment among knowledge workers in a virtual Community of Practice (CoP) as they send and receive messages with their peers will be studied in this research. Different forms of emotion from knowledge workers will be investigated in this study in the workplace. A proposed research model will be proposed. A research framework will be outlined and qualitative and quantitative analysis will be used to analyze the research results.
The importance of knowledge quality has become a key research area in recent research works. Many organizations realize that benefits of knowledge creation and sharing cannot be obtained unless quality of knowledge is achieved. This research investigates the perception of knowledge workers that uses social network sites as a means for social interaction, collaboration and knowledge sharing. The entries posted by these knowledge workers on the social network sites are gathered and studied with the presence of the element of sentiment such as emotion using sentiment network analysis. Based on the analysis, the results investigate the relationship between sentiment and quality of knowledge shared among knowledge workers on social networking sites and individual job performance. This research will analyse the improvements of employees’ job performance through the quality knowledge using interview, questionnaire survey, and text analysis to look for conversational patterns and element of sentiment. This research will investigate a number of knowledge driven companies that use social network sites. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) is used to analyse responses collected from survey data.
Social computing systems such as blogs and wikis have been used quite extensively in the last two decades by technical savvy and young users to publish their journals both for job and leisure purposes. However, the latest new development was the use of weblog as the preferred platform for knowledge creation and sharing in many commercial organizations due to its popularity and ease-of-use. Most studies conducted by researchers had been focused on motivational factors [9,10,11] aspect of blogging. However, technological characteristics of weblogs and features provided by the platform had attracted many researchers lately to study the fit between tasks performed by users and technological features offered by social networking tools such as weblogs and wikis. This paper intends to explore an additional new dimension, "task categorization" characteristics of tasks carried out by employees of companies as they do their day-to-day activities, onto the Task-Technology Fit Model discussed in [4], to provide a more appropriate model that explains the use of weblogs for knowledge creation and sharing which will be further tested and evaluated by selected Malaysian ICT Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) companies. The proposed model will be explained in detail its rationales and objectives to justify the need to consider and enhance the model with a new dimension. The paper will conclude with a set of proposed further research activities at the end of the paper.
Part 2: Key Competencies, Learning and Life TransitionsInternational audienceEmerging digital technologies play a key role in the development of enterprises. Their uses demand a transition on the part of knowledge workers, however. Web 2.0 is an emerging communication technology that supports collaborative knowledge sharing in corporate learning paradigms, changing tailor-made, expensive and high learning curve digital systems to simple but well-accepted ones [1, 2]. These platforms revolutionise how participants share, communicate and create knowledge in a corporate setting [3]. The use of Web 2.0 to support Knowledge Sharing (KS) has been extensively investigated [4, 5]. Studies that use a task-technology fit model on systems such as decision support [6] and eLearning [7] demonstrate that a good fit between tasks and digital technologies is able to improve performance of knowledge workers. This research reports the outcomes on the fit between task categorization and knowledge sharing systems. The task categories and Web 2.0 functions used in knowledge sharing practices were consistent. The outcomes highlighted that intuitive design, ease of use and a low learning curve were able to elicit both tacit and explicit organizational knowledge. Text analysis demonstrated that new knowledge was created, exchanged and shared. The study concluded that knowledge sharing activity and the fit between Web 2.0 functions and task categories were consistent and significant
