We demonstrate a few examples of laser trapping and manipulation technique being applied for the measurements of small forces in the range of fN-pN and for laser microfabrication. We discuss prospective principles applicable for future nano/micro-mechanical tools. Elastic properties of microtubules of 24 nm in diameter were determined, a gold particle of 0.25 .tm in diameter was laser trapped and manipulated. Paramagnetic microspheres were DNA-anchored to a glass substrate for measurement of elastic properties of DNA by evanescent light scattering. Also, a gold particle was attached to DNA and laser manipulated. The motion of the DNA molecule was controlled. The spring constant of the DNA was determined by using thermodynamical analysis of evanescent light scattering.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
