This is accumulated on regions where the geography is suitable; cultures are rare heritages that are passed on from generation to generation. People have created and shaped these and preserved them as material and nonmaterial cultural accumulations through generations. Our ancestors have entrusted this heritage to pass on to the future generations. Reflecting the people and their activities vividly, cultural historical heritages are also the cultural changes people establish on earth. These cultural changes prepared by geography form cultural historical heritages over time. Government institutions and civil organizations have been working to pass on these cultural historical heritages to the future generations. However, their work is not sufficient and these heritages are getting destroyed. For the protection of these heritages and passing them on to the future generations, great responsibilities fall to universities and especially to the teacher candidates studying in education faculties. In particular, more responsibility fall to the teacher candidates attending social studies education departments of education faculties because subjects about cultural historical heritage are found in middle school social studies curricula and the social studies standards emphasize this subject. However, there is no course solely about cultural historical heritage in universities' social studies education departments. The history and archeology courses are taught as compulsory or elective courses in social studies education departments. Turkey, with a very old history and innumerable cultures, should be more aware about the importance of this issue. In this study, all the courses provided in Turkey's social studies education departments are examined and found that they are insufficient. Therefore, cultural historical heritage courses should be provided as compulsory courses to the teacher candidates and these courses' content should be organized to include Turkey's cultural historical because social education teachers play a big role in educating the future generations.
Culture is historical cultural accumulations that are acquired rather than being born with and are bequeathed to future generations. Today, technological developments resulting from globalization have affected societies and begun to destroy cultures. Realizing this, Turkey and many countries have started Historical Cultural Heritage Education to protect historical cultural heritage and to raise awareness of younger generations. To increase the teacher candidates' academic knowledge and teach the importance of historical cultural heritage, in-class activities are done and lectures are given in universities' education faculties. However, it is seen that these activities do not make sense for them and therefore their academic knowledge and their sensitivity do not increase enough. In this study, teacher candidates' sensitivity about historical cultural heritage and their academic knowledge was determined by the field trip taken to Tarsus's historical cultural sites. The sample of this study is 30 second and third year social studies teacher candidates attending Niğde University. One group pre-test, post-test experimental design was used. After literature review, a 30-question survey was developed for data collection.
Today, big countries and other countries inside their axes have entered power wars in regions where underground and aboveground sources are important. One of the characteristics of countries where these power wars take place is them not being able to understand the current world politics and elements of political geography. These countries cannot develop modern strategies for current political needs. Like these countries, Turkey has not yet understood the importance of political geography and could not produce an effective work on today's world politics. We cannot use our regional power in line with our interests due to policies without a specific objective and system and changeable with each government. To use and direct our regional power, tremendous responsibility falls on the shoulders of social studies teachers. Bequeathing the importance of our geopolitical location to young generations is one of the most important responsibilities of social studies teacher candidates. In addition to not being current, the content of political geography course taught in social Studies undergraduate programs are repetition of old information. Therefore, political geography subjects in these programs should be organized according to today's word politics and more emphasis should be given to the importance of our current geopolitical location. Having an important geopolitical location and being a great power in the Middle East, in a country like Turkey, people should be more aware in this subject.
