The implementation of Teaching and Learning from Home (PdPr) has been introduced by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) as an alternative to the new norms of learning and an approach implemented to replace the conventional face-to-face education system. This study aimed to identify the impact of the PdPr implementation on Malay language teachers during the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO). The impact was divided into three main constructs namely emotional, attitude and health. A qualitative survey was conducted involving 8 Malay language teachers. These teachers were both novice and experienced teachers from primary and secondary schools. The research instrument used was an interview. Interview data were analyzed thematically according to the questions provided. The results of the study found that the implementation of PdPr had the highest negative impact on teachers' attitudes followed by emotions and health levels. The main problems that led to the change in teacher attitudes were the difficulty of establishing two-way communication during the T&L, students not submitting assignments, and parental attitudes. The emotional stress aspect of teachers during PdPr was found to be due to the Ministry's ever-changing instructions while the health aspect was due to stress and depression due to the workload during the PdPr. It was also proposed that further studies be conducted on the initiatives to overcome the problems of Malay language teachers during the implementation of PdPr.
The usage of Google Meet (GM) application is one of the methods of manual teaching that introduced by the KPM. The purpose of this research is to explore the level of knowledge and constraints faced by the teachers while using GM as the medium of implementation of an online teaching and learning (T&L) Malay Language in secondary school. A total of 11 Malay Language teachers in Kulim, Kedah is taking part as participants to be interviewed. 5 of Malay Language teachers who are teaching in the town area and another 6 teachers who are teaching Malay Language in rural area are chosen as participants. All of them are experienced Malay Language teachers. Interview data are analyzed as narrative. The finding shows that the level of online teaching knowledge every teacher is high. The constraints and difficulties faced by the teachers while using the GM application is the student's behavior who are not ready for the online learning, as well as the parents' attitude who do not cooperative in online T&L. The study proofs even though the online T&L is a new norm in an education context in Malaysia, but the teachers are giving high commitment in executing the online T&L. The teachers are using a variety tools and methods of digital applications such as GM to attract students' interest in online learning.
The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world has now changed the current situation, especially the education sector. Physical learning had to switch to online learning due to the Movement Control Order (MCO). Online home teaching and learning has replaced face-toface learning. Thus, this study was conducted to identify the attitudes and motivation of primary school students learning Malay Language online during the MCO. A total of 110 Year 5 students in a national school in Batu Berendam, Melaka, Malaysia were selected as respondents using purposive random sampling method. The study used a questionnaire instrument that contained 20 items and was divided into two constructs, namely attitude and motivation. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the questionnaire data. The findings indicate that primary school students have a positive attitude and high motivation for learning Malay Language online during MCO. Other findings include gender and socioeconomic factors do not influence the attitudes and motivation of students to learn Malay Language online learning.
