Objective: The current work was carried out between 2013-2014 during the fishing periods to evaluate certain fish aggloremations within 3 miles of the coastal zone. Therefore, some basic characteristics of fish populations along the Inceburun coast of the Sinop province of the Black Sea were examined. Materials and Methods:Data was collected from 5 trawl operations in the Sinop-Inceburun Region of the Black Sea at depths of 20 to 39 meters at 5 different locations. Biometric measurements of each species was made. A literature search was performed to gather information about the status of threatened fish species found in the region. The length-weight parameters of 4 commercial fish species were estimated. Results:During the fishing season between 1 st September 2013 and 15 th April 2014 different fish species were captured depending on the season and climate. In these surveys, 16 teleost species from 15 families, 2 elasmobranch species from 2 families and 2 species of invertebrates were recorded from 5 different stations. In these surveys random samples of red mullet, bluefish, horse mackerel, turbot etc. were collected from 5 different stations. The total mean CPUA was estimated at 425.30 kg/km 2 . Conclusion:The Black Sea areas including those around the Sinop coast have an important effect on the entire production of sea fish of the Turkish fishery. In addition, Sinop fisheries generate significant fishery production supporting logistics and employment. In the Sinop peninsula, there is an increasing trend towards the production of commercial species of the Black Sea.
The study was carried out in the 2012-2016 fishing seasons in the Central Black Sea coasts of Turkey. Tub gurnard (Chelidonichthys lucerna L., 1758) were examined in the commercial fishery (trawls, trammel nets and gillnets). A total of 56.104 kg tub gurnard was caught during the study period. Total length and weight of 117 tub gurnard individuals were measured. Minimum, maximum and average total lengths were calculated as 12.8 cm, 74.2 cm and 33.28±1.28 cm, respectively. The maximum length is the second maximum length for the Black Sea coasts however first maximum length for the Central Black Sea coasts of Turkey. Length-weight relationship (LWR) of tub gurnard were determined as W=0.0103L 2.9876 in the study. The value of the parameter 'b' was found to be 2.9876 and the growth was isometric (b = 3) for tub gurnard (P > 0.05).
Abstract:Almost all marine mammal species are in interaction with fishing activities and this interaction frequently results with the death of marine mammals in gillnet fisheries. This situation which results with the death of thousands of harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) is defined as by-catch ( non-target catch) in gillnet fisheries and in this way it is legalized at least partially. These inreactions between fisheries and dolphins cause ecologic and social concerns, while that means much more economic losses from the perspective of fishermen. In most of studies which aim to determine necessary measures to reduce by-catch of dolphins, gillnet fisheries is taken as basis and dolphin deterrent devices called pingers are used. In this subject many studies have been carried out in world, while only a few in Black Sea. However, it is still difficult to make an assessment for effectiveness of pingers. In addition to this, many studies including those of performed in Black Sea outline that pingers can keep harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) away from gillnets for 1-2 years but it is vital that monitoring the situation after this period.
