The paper discusses the issues of experience and value of work, one of the elements of economic awareness of the young generation-students from the Visegrad countries. The paper presents the concept of work and its value according to Ronald Inglehart's value system. An analysis was carried out based on empirical research conducted in April-May 2015 and November 2016 in higher education institutions in the V4 countries (Poland: Katowice, Slovakia: Nitra, Czech Republic: Olomouc/Ostrava, Hungary: Gödöllő). 1 In each country, the student groups were selected according to the auditor survey technique. The research covered Bachelor and Master students from four different types of studies: Economics, Management, Technical, Sciences, Medicine, Social Studies and Humanities. The resulting discussion concerns the work experience of the students in V4 countries and their statements concerning the value of work. A comparison will be made among the four national groups. In the "Discussion and Conclusion" part research questions are answered and a complex indicator of the value of work is constructed. The conclusion also contains a reference to Inglehart's theory and an answer concerning the question in which direction the values of work of the young generation in V4 countries are heading.
Modern, global labour market requires a lot of skills and experience from employees. The young generation of V4 countries is the first generation whose reality is based on the laws of world capitalism. The paper discusses of students attitudes towards work, especially towards working abroad on a global labour market. The paper first presents the concept of attitudes, specially attitudes towards work. An analysis was carried out on the basis of empirical research, with the use of auditorium survey, within the framework of the Visegrad Standard Grant. The empirical research referred to in the text was conducted using the audit survey method at universities of four Visegrad countries - in Katowice (Poland), Nitra (Slovakia), Olomouc and Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Godollo (Hungary). In the paper three components attitudes toward work: cognitive, affective and behavioral will be analyzed. During the empirical analysis following questions will be answered: What is the students’ knowledge about getting a job? What is the value of work in their lives? Are they going to emigrate abroad to look for a job and face global labour market? The conclusion will contain definitions of three types of students’ attitude towards working on the global labour market (coherent, ambivalent and incoherent).
A b s t r a c t. The article addresses the problem of changes in the perception of the value of family in Silesia. Silesia is a region in Poland characterized by its cultural specificity. The analysis will be based on the discussion of Silesian family values in a historical perspective and on current research of the Author. R. Inglehart's concept of materialist and post-materialist values, was adopted as the theoretical context of the research. Completed in 2010, the study concerned the issue of family, among other values, the value of marriage itself and the function of marriage. An important variable to which attention was drawn was the respondents answers on Silesian identification, in particular, whether their views on family exhibited any specificity. The analysis showed that the young generation of the large city (including the young Silesians) declared to have post-materialist values, while residents of smaller towns, had traditional -materialist values. Silesian ethnic identification has positive effects on the declared traditional family values and yields lower modernist currents. This is a result of the impact by the cultural heritage in the region.
