Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common cancers worldwide and a major cause of death in many countries. To evaluate the clinicopathological correlations of proliferative activity in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, Ki-67 antigen expression was examined using immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibody MIB1. Consecutive 40 patients who had undergone surgical resection for the treatment of HCC from January 2005 to December 2009 were enrolled in our study. The study group comprised 32 men and 8 women ranging from 27 to 76 (mean age, 54.6 SD±11.7) years of age. Expression of Ki-67 was negative in 22.5% of the 40 cases and Ki-67 positive expression “+”, “++”, “+++” was found in 11, 7 and 13 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma respectively. There are no statistically significant differences of the Ki-67 mean between age, sex distribution, dimension of the tumors, pattern of the tumor and Edmondson -Steiner grading.
According to the reports provided by the World Health Organization, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. Recognised methods for reducing the burden of cancers are screening for early detection followed by proper treatment. We studied the cancer incidence during 2007 -2012 for the population in Constanta County. The main results support the importance of wide screening programs in early detection of neoplastic diseases, especially for elder and lower access to medical services populations, such as people from rural areas.
AbstrAct. breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and cervical cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide. to analyze the cancer morbidity in women we used data taken from the reports of Public Health Department -constanta during 2007-2010 and we calculated the incidence for different types of tumors. the study shows that for all years the values for incidence of breast and cervical cancers were double in rural areas compared with urban areas.
Meat is a staple food for a large part of the population and excessive consumption is often done, with serious repercussions on health. But there are situations where even the occasional meat intake can affect the health of the population, if the products have not been verified for sanitary standards. Trichinosis is an example for this situation. Romania has a significant number of cases compared to other European countries. In Constanta County trichinosis incidence is increasing continuously in 2009-2013. Considering these data we can say that prevention and control measures are not sufficient for this pathology.
The increasing prevalence of obesity among high-school students is a public health problem, as more and more children are facing it.[5] Education has a great impact on the way young people deal with this problem. A significant effect on the behaviour of the pupils is the background they have, differences between children from rural areas compared to children from urban areas in terms of BMI being documented. A number of 185 high-school students from two schools in Constanta, from urban and rural areas were interviewed and data about height and weight was collected.
The results show that there is no statistically significant difference of the height between teenagers from urban and rural area, but there is a statistically significant association between area and BMI-z score distribution. Also, a higher number of teenagers from urban area underestimate their weight status compared to teenagers from rural areas.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
